Nonlinear vector Duffing inclusions with no growth restriction on the orientor field
2019
We consider nonlinear multivalued Dirichlet Duffing systems. We do not impose any growth condition on the multivalued perturbation. Using tools from the theory of nonlinear operators of monotone type, we prove existence theorems for the convex and the nonconvex problems. Also we show the existence of extremal trajectories and show that such solutions are $C_0^1(T,\mathbb{R}^N)$-dense in the solution set of the convex problem (strong relaxation theorem).

Anomalous partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms I: dynamically coherent examples
2016
We build an example of a non-transitive, dynamically coherent partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism $f$ on a closed $3$-manifold with exponential growth in its fundamental group such that $f^n$ is not isotopic to the identity for all $n\neq 0$. This example contradicts a conjecture in \cite{HHU}. The main idea is to consider a well-understood time-$t$ map of a non-transitive Anosov flow and then carefully compose with a Dehn twist.
Counting Zeros of Holomorphic Functions
2019
In this chapter we will generalize Proposition 3.4.6 of Hager about counting the zeros of holomorphic functions of exponential growth. In Hager and Sjostrand (Math Ann 342(1):177–243, 2008. http://arxiv.org/abs/math/0601381) we obtained such a generalization, by weakening the regularity assumptions on the functions ϕ. However, due to some logarithmic losses, we were not quite able to recover Hager’s original result, and we still had a fixed domain Γ with smooth boundary.
Lipschitz continuity of Cheeger-harmonic functions in metric measure spaces
2003
Abstract We use the heat equation to establish the Lipschitz continuity of Cheeger-harmonic functions in certain metric spaces. The metric spaces under consideration are those that are endowed with a doubling measure supporting a (1,2)-Poincare inequality and in addition supporting a corresponding Sobolev–Poincare-type inequality for the modification of the measure obtained via the heat kernel. Examples are given to illustrate the necessity of our assumptions on these spaces. We also provide an example to show that in the general setting the best possible regularity for the Cheeger-harmonic functions is Lipschitz continuity.
A group analysis via weak equivalence transformations for a model of tumor encapsulation
2004
A symmetry reduction of a PDEs system, describing the expansive growth of a benign tumour, is obtained via a group analysis approach. The presence in the model of three arbitrary functions suggests the use of Lie symmetries by using the weak equivalence transformations. An invariant classification is given which allows us to reduce the initial PDEs system to an ODEs system. Numerical simulations show a realistic enough description of the physical process.
Graded polynomial identities and exponential growth
2009
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional algebra over a field of characteristic zero graded by a finite abelian group $G$. Here we study a growth function related to the graded polynomial identities satisfied by $A$ by computing the exponential rate of growth of the sequence of graded codimensions of $A$. We prove that the $G$-exponent of $A$ exists and is an integer related in an explicit way to the dimension of a suitable semisimple subalgebra of $A$.
Skeleta of affine hypersurfaces
2014
A smooth affine hypersurface Z of complex dimension n is homotopy equivalent to an n-dimensional cell complex. Given a defining polynomial f for Z as well as a regular triangulation of its Newton polytope, we provide a purely combinatorial construction of a compact topological space S as a union of components of real dimension n, and prove that S embeds into Z as a deformation retract. In particular, Z is homotopy equivalent to S.
The annular decay property and capacity estimates for thin annuli
2016
We obtain upper and lower bounds for the nonlinear variational capacity of thin annuli in weighted $\mathbf{R}^n$ and in metric spaces, primarily under the assumptions of an annular decay property and a Poincar\'e inequality. In particular, if the measure has the $1$-annular decay property at $x_0$ and the metric space supports a pointwise $1$-Poincar\'e inequality at $x_0$, then the upper and lower bounds are comparable and we get a two-sided estimate for thin annuli centred at $x_0$, which generalizes the known estimate for the usual variational capacity in unweighted $\mathbf{R}^n$. Most of our estimates are sharp, which we show by supplying several key counterexamples. We also character…
