The radiosensitization effect of titanate nanotubes as a new tool in radiation therapy for glioblastoma: A proof-of-concept

Abstract Background and purpose One of the new challenges to improve radiotherapy is to increase the ionizing effect by using nanoparticles. The interest of titanate nanotubes (TiONts) associated with radiotherapy was evaluated in two human glioblastoma cell lines (SNB-19 and U87MG). Materials and methods Titanate nanotubes were synthetized by the hydrothermal treatment of titanium dioxide powder in a strongly basic NaOH solution. Breast cancer (BC) recovery has increased in recent years thanks to efforts of Omics-based research in this field. However, despite the important results obtained, BC remains a complex multifactorial pathology that is difficult to treat appropriately. Influence of arbuscular mycorrhizae on biomass production and nitrogen fixation of berseem clover plants subjected to water stress.

Several studies, performed mainly in pots, have shown that arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis can mitigate the negative effects of water stress on plant growth. No information is available about the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis on berseem clover growth and nitrogen (N) fixation under conditions of water shortage. Bayesian hierarchical nonlinear modelling of intra-abdominal volume during pneumoperitoneum for laparoscopic surgery

Laparoscopy is an operation carried out in the abdomen or pelvis through small incisions with external visual control by a camera. This technique needs the abdomen to be insufflated with carbon dioxide to obtain a working space for surgical instruments' manipulation. Identifying the critical point at which insufflation should be limited is crucial to maximizing surgical working space and minimizing injurious effects. Bayesian nonlinear growth mixed-effects models are applied to data coming from a repeated measures design. This study allows to assess the relationship between the insufflation pressure and the intra--abdominal volume.

Crystal growth and refined Sellmeier equations over the complete transparency range of RbTiOPO4

Abstract The phase-matching directions sum- and difference-frequency generations are measured in the principal planes of RbTiOPO 4 crystals grown from a halide flux. The use of crystals with a cylindrical shape and of a tunable laser source allows us to perform accurate measurements over the complete transparency range of that material, and to determine a refined set of Sellmeier equations valid for any phase-matched interaction in that crystal.

Does a global wealth tax reduce inequality? When Piketty meets Mankiw

Abstract We investigate the effects of a wealth tax on consumption and wealth inequality in a standard small open economy model featuring labour income heterogeneity. We show that consumption inequality and wealth inequality are identical in the long run if consumption growth exceeds output growth. Under this condition, the wealth tax reduces long run inequality under two additional conditions. First, the difference between the rate of return on wealth and the growth rate, r − g , is higher than a positive threshold. Second, the tax rate is lower than a cap which rises in r − g but decreases in labour income heterogeneity.

In contrast to other electron deficient enophiles or dienophiles which react with 1,4-cyclohexadiene (1,4-CHD) under aromatization, 1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-diones react in a defined reaction sequence. In a first step the 1,4-cyclohexadiene reacts via an ene-reaction. The intermediately formed substituted 1,3-cyclohexadiene immediately reacts in a Diels-Alder reaction. The regiochemistry of the Diels-Alder reaction is controlled by the solvent polarity. This reaction sequence can be used to synthesize polymers.
