Scope for Growth of the intertidal Lessepsian bivalve Brachidontes pharaonis (Fischer 1870) at varying environmental variables

2009

The concept of energy available to organismal growth (i.e. scope for growth; SFG) assumes a central role in studying the behaviour of successful invaders in aquatic habitats: the higher the energy allocated to growth and reproduction, the greater the likelihood of stability/persistence in space over time of aquatic populations. When successful invaders find useful life conditions (i.e., allowing to reach maximum SFG), they compete for space and resources with indigenous species, altering the functioning of entire ecosystems. The Indo-Pacific bivalve Brachidontes pharaonis offers an excellent model for the study of “Lessepsian migration” and the successive colonization at new Mediterranean l…

Analiza anatomiczna drewna reliktowej sosny zwyczajnej z Sokolicy

2021

The work describes anatomical analysis of the wood from a relict Pinus sylvestris L. performed to determine its characteristics. Transverse ca. 20 μm thick sections were prepared with a core-microtome and observed in bright-field microscopy. Observations of tangential sections were performed in epi-fluorescence. The xylem of the relict pine showed many narrow growth rings. The occurrence of i.a. discontinuous tree rings, light rings and intraannual density fluctuations was stated. It can be expected that specific properties of the wood of the studied pine are the result of harsh growing conditions – limited water availability at the top of Sokolica. In addition, a wide range of factors affe…

Pharmacokinetics of Intravitreal Anti-VEGF Drugs in Age-Related Macular Degeneration

2019

Intravitreal administration of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibodies has become the standard treatment for Age-Related Macular Degeneration; however, the knowledge of their pharmacokinetics is limited. A comprehensive review of the preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic data that were obtained in different studies with intravitreal bevacizumab, ranibizumab, and aflibercept has been conducted. Moreover, the factors that can influence the vitreous pharmacokinetics of these drugs, as well as the methods that were used in the studies for analytical determination, have been exposed. These anti-VEGF drugs present different charge and molecular weights, which play an importan…

Contribution à l'étude du slack organisationnel : le cas des dépenses d'investissements dans une grande entreprise industrielle

2012

Contribution to the Study of the Organizational Slack : The Case of Investment Expenditure in a Big Industrial Company This paper contributes to research on organizational slack. The slacks integrated into capital expenditure have been little studied. The economic crisis in 2008-2009 represents a good opportunity to analyze these slacks. A longitudinal case study has been carried out in an industrial company from 2006 to 2010

Numeeriset yhtälönratkaisumenetelmät

2017

Rekursio tarkoittaa oleellisesti toistoa. Iteraatiossa edellinen likiratkaisu ohjaa tarkentavasti seuraavan likiratkaisun laskentaa. Tällöin muodostuu tarkentuvien likiratkaisuiden lu…

Regional financial development and bank competition: effects on firms' growth

2009

Fernandez de Guevara J. and Maudos J. Regional financial development and bank competition: effects on firms' growth, Regional Studies. This paper analyses the effect of regional financial development and bank competition on firms' growth using the Spanish provinces as a testing ground. The results show that firms in industries with a greater dependence on external finance grow faster in more financially developed provinces. The results also show that bank monopoly power has an inverted-‘U’ effect on firms' growth, suggesting that market power has its highest effect at intermediate values. The effect is heterogeneous among firms according to the financial dependence of the industry to which …

The REMSDB Macroeconomic Database of The Spanish Economy

2007

This paper presents a new macroeconomic database for the Spanish economy, REMSDB. The construction of this database has been oriented to conducting medium-term simulations for policy evaluation with the REMS model, a large Rational Expectations macroeconomic Model for Spain. The paper provides a detailed description of the data and documents its main statistical properties. The database is thought to be of major interest to related applications, whether strictly associated with the REMS model or, rather, with empirical macroeconomic studies.

Potential Growth and Business Cycle in the Spanish Economy: Implications for Fiscal Policy

2007

An accurately estimation of the cyclical position of an economy is a necessary condition for the success of fiscal stabilisation policies. In this paper we show that the estimation of the output gap by means of decomposing a production function produces similar results to univariate and multivariate methods, increasing their robustness and allowing us to conclude that most of the information on the economic cycle is included in the cyclical component of the unemployment rate. The results also indicate that there is reduced uncertainty about the periods when the Spanish economy has clearly been in a deep recession or in a sharp expansion. These periods have been limited and of relatively sho…

The impact of budget deficit on the economic development of Romania

2012

This paper empirically analyzes the impact of budget deficit on the economic development of Romania. Using the OLS estimates for quarterly series for the period from 2001 to 2011, the results of the estimates prove that there is an indirect relationship between budget deficit and economic growth of Romania. According to the best statistically significant model from the three different model tested, we reached the result that one percent rise of budget deficit gives a 1.36 percent fall in real GDP. This result sustains the neoclassical hypothesis and is against the Keynesist hypothesis or the Ricardian equivalence.

THE IMPACT OF FISCAL POLICY ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE COUNTRIES OF EASTERN EUROPE

2015

This paper deals with the effects of fiscal policy on economic growth in 10 countries of Eastern Europe. For this analysis we to use two regression models. The results of the first model provide information on the factors that influence economic growth. Thus, direct taxes, indirect taxes, total income taxes, social contributions and the economic crisis had an effect on economic growth. Of these variables, total taxable income had a positive effect and indirect taxes and social contributions had a direct negative effect on economic growth. In the second model, the analysis confirmed that a significant effect on economic growth have had other direct taxes, social contributions of the employer…
