Di- and Tetrairon(III) μ-Oxido Complexes of an N3S-Donor Ligand: Catalyst Precursors for Alkene Oxidations
2019
The new di- and tetranuclear Fe(III) μ-oxido complexes [Fe 4 (μ-O) 4 (PTEBIA) 4 ](CF 3 SO 3 ) 4 (CH 3 CN) 2 ] (1a), [Fe 2 (μ-O)Cl 2 (PTEBIA) 2 ](CF 3 SO 3 ) 2 (1b), and [Fe 2 (μ-O)(HCOO) 2 (PTEBIA) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 (MeOH) (2) were prepared from the sulfur-containing ligand (2-((2,4-dimethylphenyl)thio)-N,N-bis ((1-methyl-benzimidazol-2-yl)methyl)ethanamine (PTEBIA). The tetrairon complex 1a features four μ-oxido bridges, while in dinuclear 1b, the sulfur moiety of the ligand occupies one of the six coordination sites of each Fe(III) ion with a long Fe-S distance of 2.814(6) A. In 2, two Fe(III) centers are bridged by one oxido and two formate units, the latter likely formed by methanol oxidati…
A muramidase from Acremonium alcalophilum hydrolyse peptidoglycan found in the gastrointestinal tract of broiler chickens
2021
Abstract This study evaluates peptidoglycan hydrolysis by a microbial muramidase from the fungus Acremonium alcalophilum in vitro and in the gastrointestinal tract of broiler chickens. Peptidoglycan used for in vitro studies was derived from 5 gram-positive chicken gut isolate type strains. In vitro peptidoglycan hydrolysis was studied by three approaches: (a) helium ion microscopy to identify visual phenotypes of hydrolysis, (b) reducing end assay to quantify solubilization of peptidoglycan fragments, and (c) mass spectroscopy to estimate relative abundances of soluble substrates and reaction products. Visual effects of peptidoglycan hydrolysis could be observed by helium ion microscopy an…
A novel 2D coordination network built from hexacopper(i)-iodide clusters and cagelike aminophosphine blocks for reversible “turn-on” sensing of anili…
2018
A new copper(I) coordination polymer [Cu6(μ3-I)6(μ3-PTAO)2]n (1) was prepared from copper(I) iodide and 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane-7-oxide (PTAO). The crystal structure of 1 reveals an intricate 2D coordination network constructed from the hexacopper(I)-iodide [Cu6(μ3-I)6] cluster units with the 4M6-1 topology interlinked by the μ3-PTAO spacers. An overall 2D layer network can be simplified to a binodal 3,6-connected net with the kgd topology. A derived 1@paper material was prepared by impregnating compound 1 onto a filter paper. Detailed investigation of the luminescence properties for 1 and 1@paper in the solid state revealed a remarkable ability of both materials to sense aniline m…

Uranocenium: Synthesis, Structure, and Chemical Bonding
2019
Abstraction of iodide from [(η5 -C5 i Pr5 )2 UI] (1) produced the cationic uranium(III) metallocene [(η5 -C5 i Pr5 )2 U]+ (2) as a salt of [B(C6 F5 )4 ]- . The structure of 2 consists of unsymmetrically bonded cyclopentadienyl ligands and a bending angle of 167.82° at uranium. Analysis of the bonding in 2 showed that the uranium 5f orbitals are strongly split and mixed with the ligand orbitals, thus leading to non-negligible covalent contributions to the bonding. Investigation of the dynamic magnetic properties of 2 revealed that the 5f covalency leads to partially quenched anisotropy and fast magnetic relaxation in zero applied magnetic field. Application of a magnetic field leads to domin…
Isolation of a perfectly linear uranium(II) metallocene
2020
Reduction of the uranium(III) metallocene [(eta(5)-(C5Pr5)-Pr-i)(2)UI] (1) with potassium graphite produces the "second-generation" uranocene [(eta(5)-(C5Pr5)-Pr-i)(2)U] (2), which contains uranium in the formal divalent oxidation state. The geometry of 2 is that of a perfectly linear bis(cyclopentadienyl) sandwich complex, with the ground-state valence electron configuration of uranium(II) revealed by electronic spectroscopy and density functional theory to be 5f(3) 6d(1). Appreciable covalent contributions to the metal-ligand bonds were determined from a computational study of 2, including participation from the uranium 5f and 6d orbitals. Whereas three unpaired electrons in 2 occupy orbi…
Palladium(II)-Stabilized Pyridine-2-Diazotates: Synthesis, Structural Characterization, and Cytotoxicity Studies
2018
Well-defined diazotates are scarce. Here we report the synthesis of unprecedented homoleptic palladium(II) diazotate complexes. The palladium(II)-mediated nitrosylation of 2-aminopyridines with NaNO2 results in the formation of metal-stabilized diazotates, which were found to be cytotoxic to human ovarian cancer cells.

Reliable fluorescence technique to detect the antibiotic colistin, a possible environmental threat due to its overuse.
2022
AbstractColistin, considered a drug of last resort as it is effective towards multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. Oral administration of colistin in the poultry industry is a common practice, not only to prevent and reduce bacterial infections, but also as a rapid-growth promoter. Long-term exposure to any antibiotic will eventually lead to the development of bacterial resistance towards all antibiotics through various mechanisms in the physiological system and environment. Chicken is the most consumed source of animal protein for humans throughout the world. In addition, the manure of poultry, containing traces of the used antibiotics, is being used in farming. Exposure…
Hyper-CEST NMR of metal organic polyhedral cages reveals hidden diastereomers with diverse guest exchange kinetics.
2022
AbstractGuest capture and release are important properties of self-assembling nanostructures. Over time, a significant fraction of guests might engage in short-lived states with different symmetry and stereoselectivity and transit frequently between multiple environments, thereby escaping common spectroscopy techniques. Here, we investigate the cavity of an iron-based metal organic polyhedron (Fe-MOP) using spin-hyperpolarized 129Xe Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (hyper-CEST) NMR. We report strong signals unknown from previous studies that persist under different perturbations. On-the-fly delivery of hyperpolarized gas yields CEST signatures that reflect different Xe exchange kinetic…
