Using a critical intercultural communication framework, this research project explores the interplay between secularism, culture, religion, identity, and collective representations. Objectives: We studied the associations between perceived togetherness, depressive symptoms, and loneliness over a six-month period among 222 people aged 75–79 who reported loneliness or depressive mood at baseline. Method: The present cross-lagged models utilized baseline and six-month follow-up data of a randomized controlled trial that examined the effects of a social intervention on loneliness and depression (ISRCTN78426775). Tutkielmani tavoitteena on tutkia mitä merkityksiä opiskelijoiden pokeriyhteisö antaa yhteisölle ja pokeripelille: miksi he pelaavat pokeria ja minkä takia he viettävät aikaa yhteisössä? Peliyhteisön tutkimuksen pohjana käytän sosiologi Michel Maffesolin käsitettä uusheimolaisuus, johon sovellan ja vertaan tutkimaani yhteisöä. Lisäksi käyn läpi yhteisön jäsenten suhtautumista rahapelaamiseen ja erityisesti Texas Hold’em pokerivariaatioon, jota he yhteisössä pelasivat. This paper focuses on a community–university partnership built around a programme of study co-created by residents of a disadvantaged community and situated, for the most part, within that community. The aim of this paper is to share lessons learned from this community engagement initiative, as identified through a research study which ran concurrent to the programme. The study involved 41 interviews (18 individual interviews and 23 focus groups) over a two-year period with 28 participants. The recently reformed Finnish Social Welfare Act obligates public social work to enact structural social work, and to address the community- and structural-level social problems behind individual cases. This article examines how community work and structural social work are conceived by early career social workers. Co-Creation of Value for IT-Enabled Services : A Case of Geocaching

This study explores how value is co-created in one particular IT-enabled service, geocaching. Consumer Information Systems (CIS) framework is used as a sensitizing framework to study experienced geocachers' (n=14) perceptions of what they value in geocaching. The following core values emerged that motivate people to co-create value in geocaching: challenging oneself and others, joy of success, learning, and social relations. The results reveal that geocaching is distinctively hedonic in nature, as people pursue happiness and utility via geocaching. Even support for the geocaching community was motivated by such values. Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify factors that foster or prevent sense of belonging among frontline and middle managers in social and health-care services in Finland. Design/methodology/approach The data have been collected among social and health-care managers (n = 135; 64 per cent nursing managers) through two open-ended questions in a questionnaire concerning sense of community. The results of the open-ended questions have been analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Tiivistelmä - Referat – Abstract Tavoitteet Tutkimuksen lähtökohtana on yksilöllisen ja yhteisöllisen oppimisen välinen jännite erilaisine oppimisteorioineen. Oppimiskäsitysten tarkastelussa hyödynnettiin muun muassa Tynjälän (1999), Vygotskyn (1982), Laven ja Wengerin (1991) sekä Dillenbourgin (1999) määritelmiä.
