Espanjankielisen blogosfäärin hyödyntäminen informaalissa kielenoppimisessa
2017
Blogosfääri on yksi näistä.
Testate amoebae as a potential tracer of organic matter dislodged from peat extraction areas
2020
In the boreal zone, surface waters mostly receive external organic matter (OM) from surrounding peatlands. The lake’s biological communities may respond to changes in OM inputs caused by anthropogenic activities in the catchment. Testate amoebae (TA) possess an outer shell that preserves well in lake sediments and are commonly used in paleo-environmental studies. Additionally, they fall into the size range of particles transported from peatlands to lakes, making them potential particle tracers. Here, we compared TA communities of current and pre-peat extraction sediments from lakes receiving OM only from peat extraction areas (impact lakes) with lakes receiving OM from peatlands under other…
Road verges provide alternative habitats for some, but not all, meadow plants
2021
Questions Agricultural intensification has led to the decline of biodiverse meadows and other semi-natural grasslands. Road verges offer potential alternative habitats for meadow species, but they may not be suitable for all meadow species due to different soil properties, frequent disturbances, pollution or suboptimal management. Are the communities of vascular plants and bryophytes similar or dissimilar to those in mown or grazed meadows? What kind of species are associated with road verges, mown meadows or grazed meadows? How do the habitat types differ in their soil conditions and disturbance intensity? Location The study was conducted on 36 sites in Central Finland. Methods We compared…
Legitimointistrategioiden käyttö kuntien ympäristöraportoinnissa
2020
Legitimation strategies in the environmental reports of Finnish townsThis paper focuses on the legitimation strategies used in the environmental reports of the five biggest towns in Finland. The data consist of environmental reports published by Helsinki, Tampere, Espoo, Vantaa and Oulu. The results of the content analysis show that the towns use strategies whose purpose is to modify the public’s perception of the organization in a positive direction. The purpose of this study is to increase critical knowledge of the legitimation strategies in environment reports.

Jyväskylän yliopiston ylioppilaskunnan hiili- ja luontojalanjälki
2023
No room for males in caves : Female‐biased sex ratio in subterranean amphipods of the genus Niphargus
2021
Sex allocation theory predicts that the proportion of daughters to sons will evolve in response to ecological conditions that determine the costs and benefits of producing each sex. All else being equal, the adult sex ratio (ASR) should also vary with ecological conditions. Many studies of subterranean species reported female-biased ASR, but no systematic study has yet been conducted. We test the hypothesis that the ASR becomes more female-biased with increased isolation from the surface. We compiled a dataset of ASRs of 35 species in the subterranean amphipod Niphargus, each living in one of three distinct habitats (surface-subterranean boundary, cave streams, phreatic lakes) representing …

Nature exposure is not associated with parent-reported or objectively measured sleep quality in 6-year-old children : a study in Finland
2023
Exposure to green environments has been associated with better sleep quality in adults. This study examined whether nature exposure is associated with parent-reported or actigraphy measured sleep quality in children. Against the hypotheses, no differences in sleep quality between the case and control groups or a moderating effect of socioeconomic status or sex were found. Green environment exposure may not serve as an environmental intervention to increase sleep quality in children. peerReviewed
