Abstract A deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme ceramidase leads to accumulation of the sphingolipid ceramide in several organs such as skin, liver, brain and other tissues, resulting in a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations. The most common form, called Farber lipogranulomatosis, is characterized by subcutaneous skin nodules and a progressive hoarseness, in many cases also the central nervous system is affected. Objective: To obtain information on the efficacy of repeated short cycles of GNRH agonist treatment in order to avoid hysterectomy in near-menopausal women with symptomatic fibroids. Study design: 72 pre-menopausal women (mean age 50 years) with one or more uterine fibroids >10 cm in diameter, symptomatic menorrhagia lasting three months or more and haemoglobin=9 g/dl entered the study. Objective To examine heavy-resistance exercise–induced acute neuromuscular fatigue, blood lactate concentration, and muscle pain in elderly women with fibromyalgia (FM) and in healthy controls before and after a period of strength training.
