Preliminary evidence suggests that changes in zinc (Zn) metabolism are associated with anorexia nervosa (AN). However, data are scarce regarding potential differences in serum Zn concentrations in adolescent and young adult patients with AN. It was the aim of the present pilot study to compare serum Zn concentrations between acutely ill and remitted adolescent and young adult female patients with AN and female controls. Standardized criteria of response to treatment and a unified definition of resistance/intolerance to hydroxycarbamide (HC) in essential thrombocythaemia (ET) have been proposed by the European LeukaemiaNet (ELN). We have retrospectively evaluated such criteria in 166 ET patients treated with HC for a median of 4·5 years. Overall, 134 patients achieved a complete clinicohaematological response (CR) and 25 a partial response. Thirty-three patients met at least one of the ELN criteria defining resistance (n = 15) or intolerance (n = 21) to HC. The seventy-four volunteers who took part in the study attended a seminar on the Vita 3D Master Guide (MG) and the TTB system as well as a demonstration of the equipment before training began. The objective of this retrospective study is to evaluate the incidence of mandibular fractures in the eastern part of Libya and to present our experience in treating this type of facial fracture. We analyzed factors such as the incidence of age, sex, time distribution, cause and site of the fracture and the associated injuries in 493 patients presenting a total of 666 mandibular fractures. These patients were treated at Al-Jala Trauma Hospital, Benghazi-Libya between 2000 and 2006.
