Tutkimusmatka pienyrittäjän työvalmiuksien ytimeen : kirjallisuuteen ja DACUM-analyysiin perustuva kartoitus

2007

This study examines the occupational competence and attitudes that small business entrepreneurs consider essential to their work. Small business entrepreneurs were given an opportunity to express their views in small focus groups of peer entrepreneurs. Consensus opinions formulated by the groups were then meticulously documented. The results expose the very core or soul of entrepreneurial competence and attitudes by determining what small business entrepreneurs feel they must be able to do. Acknowledgement and acceptance of tacit knowledge as part of one's competence and attitudes would introduce a systematic approach to the recording of such knowledge and enable its transfer to co-workers …

The Startup Scratch Book – Opening the Black Box of Startup Education

2021

Teaching entrepreneurship and startups is a challenging task. Approaches using real or simulated entrepreneurship as a teaching method are also common in startup education. However, as educators and researchers, we typically only observe the outcomes of the startup journey between weekly lectures and other meetings, whereas the actions taken by the student teams can seldom be observed. This makes the process a black box. All valuable learnings, realizations, and big ideas happen in the students’ minds, and little evidence exists to say what happened during the course. As a result, we are entirely missing out on the most critical elements of the learning process. To remedy this issue, we pro…

Entrepreneurship Education with Impact: Opening the Black Box

2017

Entrepreneurship education (EE) has become globally widespread. Governments, universities, and private institutions increasingly deploy resources dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship competencies amongst entrepreneurs as well as in society at large. However, this exponential growth of initiatives did not go hand in hand with a similar development of scholarly research, hence hindering our understanding of the impacts of EE.

Students’ self-reported learning outcomes after a business start-up education program

2019

The aim of the present study is to examine the breadth of influence of a business plan-based entrepreneurship education. This task is implemented by examining students’ (n = 227) self-reported learning outcomes concerning entrepreneurial skills, attitudes and abilities after education. In addition to proposing a classification of the self-reported learning outcomes, this study explores how these outcomes are related to the background characteristics of those taking part in an education program, and of the companies involved. Based on this study, four main areas of self-reported learning outcomes were found: (i) working-life key skills, (ii) management skills, (iii) entrepreneurial empowerme…

Language, (em)power(ment) and affective capitalism : the case of an entrepreneurship workshop for refugees in Germany

2022

Abstract This paper seeks to advance research on the nexus of language, work-related training and affective capitalism by focusing on an entrepreneurship workshop organized for newly arrived refugees in Germany. Despite the occupational orientation, the primary objective of the workshop was not establishing a business but “empowering” the participants by guiding them to adopt “an entrepreneurial mindset”. To delve deeper into this ‘will to empower’, the study brings together the perspectives of governmentality studies, ethnography, discourse studies and affect studies. To investigate in more detail the evocation of the ‘entrepreneurial mindset’, the study draws on ethnographic data collecte…

Challenges of the Information Society to Entrepreneurial and Technology Education in the Finnish Comprehensive School

2004

Even if the concept Information Society has versatile menings for its details, there is an approximate agreement about its general essence. As a result of these the central essence of Work has been changed from reproduction to thinking, understanding and planning. Today emphasized are teamwork, spontaneous, self-directe…
