Parent contributions to friendship stability during the primary school years.

The present study examines whether characteristics of parents predict the stability of a child’s best friendships across the primary school years. Participants included 1,523 Finnish children (766 boys) who reported involvement in a total of 1,326 reciprocated friendship dyads in the 1st grade (M = 7.16 years old). At the onset of the study, mothers and fathers completed questionnaires describing their own parenting (i.e., behavioral control, psychological control, and affection toward the child) and depressive symptoms. When empathy matters: the role of sex and empathy in close friendships

Based on prior theory and research (Ciarrochi & Heaven, 2009; Eagly & Wood, 1999), we hypothesized that the link between empathy and friendship would be moderated by sex: Girls will nominate empathic boys as friends, whereas boys will not tend to nominate empathic girls. We collected measures of empathy, friendship social support, and close friendship nominations in grade 10 across 1,970 students in 16 schools (Mage = 15.70, SD = .44; males = 993, females = 977). This longitudinal study investigated prospective links between social isolation and adjustment problems among 166 (77 girls, 89 boys) Finnish children ages 7 to 9. Peer nominations for social engagement and self‐reports of internalizing and externalizing problems were collected in the spring of the 1st and 2nd grade. Tutkimukseni tehtävänä on selvittää, miten Jyväskylän musiikkiluokkien A-kuorossa (sittemmin Vox Aurea) laulaneet ihmiset kokevat kuoron vaikuttaneen elämäänsä. Haastattelin tutkimukseeni viittä erilaisesta musiikillisesta taustasta tulevaa aikuista, jotka ovat laulaneet kuorossa sen alkuvuosina, sekä kuutta nuorta, jotka lauloivat kuorossa haastatteluhetkellä. Kahden eri sukupolven haastatteleminen mahdollistaa vertailun sen suhteen, ovatko kuorolaulun tärkeät ja vaikuttavat asiat huomattavasti muuttuneet kuoron alkuajoista nykypäivään. The first purpose of this study was to examine perceived loneliness among elderly persons aged 80 at the baseline and stability and changes in loneliness over a 5-year follow-up. In addition, the extent to which different factors are associated with and predict loneliness was explored. The second purpose was to study the structure and stability and the predictors of perceived togetherness in men and women over the 5-year period.
