Adaptation of a tropical butterfly to a temperate climate

Developmental plasticity enables organisms to cope with environmental heterogeneity, such as seasonal variation in climatic conditions, and is thought to affect a species’ capability to adapt to environments with novel seasonal and ecological dynamics. We studied developmental plasticity of the widespread tropical butterfly, Bicyclus safitza, which reaches the southern edge of its distribution in the temperate zone of South Africa. Bakalaura darba nosaukums – “Speciālās ekonomiskās zonas statusa ietekme uz nodarbinātību Liepājas pilsētā”. Darbā analizēts kā speciālās ekonomiskās zonas statuss ir ietekmējis nodarbinātību Liepājas pilsētā. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no trīs daļām. Pirmajā daļā tiek apskatīts brīvo ekonomisko zonu teorētiskais pamatojums, otrajā daļā tiek izpētīts kādas brīvās ekonomiskās zonas pastāv Latvijā un analizēta Liepājas speciālās ekonomiskās zonas darbība, savukārt trešajā daļā tiek pētīta Liepājas speciāli ekonomiskās zonas statusa ietekme uz nodarbinātību Liepājas pilsētā. The purpose of the current study aimed to examine the performance related experiences of elite karate athletes prior to a major international competition. The secondary aim was to explore the relationship between athlete and coach performance ratings. Athletes selected emotional and non-emotional words to describe their experiences related to performance. Results indicated that best performance was characterized by high intensities of helpful emotion and non-emotion descriptors, while worst performance was characterized by high intensities of harmful descriptors. The role of social interaction during pre-performance routines : An individual zones of optimal functioning (IZOF) perspective

The purpose of the current study was to provide an exploratory account of swimmers’ pre-performance routines prior to a successful performance and the influential role that social interaction plays during this time. Eight swimmers’ descriptions of their pre-performance routines were analyzed using an interpretive thematic analysis to identify salient storylines. Two overarching themes were identified: (a) athletes’ interactions with the social environment; and (b) connection between the social modality and other modalities of a psychobiosocial state. A competitive reactivity study on the oxidative cyclization of thiosemicarbazones into 1,3,4-thiadiazoles

Abstract In order to obtain useful insights on the mechanism of formation of 2(3H)-imino-1,3,4-thiadiazoles by oxidative cyclization of aldehyde thiosemicarbazones with Cu(II) or Fe(III) salts, a competitive reactivity study was performed on a suitable set of diversely substituted substrates, by means of HPLC techniques. This approach enabled to exploit Hammett’s equation without performing otherwise difficult-to-run kinetic experiments. The results presented herein support the hypothesis that the formation of the thiadiazole ring is induced by the attack of the oxidizing Lewis acid metal cation onto the imine-like nitrogen atom of the thiosemicarbazone substrate.
