Ein zahngrößen- und gesichtsbreitenbezogener Zahnbogenindex

1994

Taking as its starting point the often postulated criticism of Pont's Index, the intent of the study was to develop a diagnostic procedure which took into consideration the objection that the Pont Index doesn't take the shape of the patient's skull into consideration. On the basis of the data obtained from the models and anthropological measurements of 50 adult subjects with fairly eugnathic dentition, the first step was to follow Pont and study which skull size exhibited the highest correlation to the posterior dental arch. Of all the relevant sizes the zygomatic arch width exhibited the highest correlation. Reference values for the posterior dental arch width, which were obtained with the…

Jacob's disease secondary to coronoid process osteochondroma. A case report

2010

The formation of a new joint between a pathologically elongated coronoid process and the body of the malar homolateral bone is known as Jacob's disease. Coronoid process hyperplasia was first described in 1853 by Von Langenbeck, and it was not until 1899 when Oscar Jacob described the disease that it was named after him. Jacobs's disease is an uncommon entity with only a few documented cases in the literature. The condition first manifests with progressive limitation of mouth opening and facial asymmetry. Pain is uncommon and it mainly affects young patients. Different factors have been postulated as possible causes, including temporal muscle hyperactivity, previous trauma, chronic disc dis…

Bone Regeneration and Soft Tissue Enhancement Around Zygomatic Implants: Retrospective Case Series

2020

Purpose: To present a case series of zygomatic implants combined with bone regeneration and soft tissue enhancement techniques to reduce the risk of biological delayed complications such as maxillary sinusitis and soft tissue recession. Materials and methods: Zygomatic implants placed simultaneously with different bone regeneration techniques (buccal, palatal and buccal-palatal bone regeneration) and soft tissue enhancement techniques (pediculate and free connective tissue graft) were followed for at least 12 months. The following information was collected: patient age and sex, number of zygomatic implants, zygomatic implant success rate, zygomatic implant position according to classificati…

A 10-Year Cone Beam Computerized Tomography Observation of the Buccal Bony Wall of an Immediately Placed Implant at the Anterior Maxilla: A Case Repo…

2017

Since the introduction of immediate implant placements, the buccal bony wall has been a major consideration for success due to its correlation with soft tissue contour and color. This report presents the stability of the buccal wall thickness of an immediately placed implant at the anterior maxilla over 10 years. Although the width of the buccal wall decreased at the 2-year post-op follow-up, it remained stable afterward according to cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) scans. Hence, this report suggests that ensuring adequate bony wall thickness with bone augmentation and fixture position may promise the longevity of the buccal bony wall and surrounding soft tissue in an immediate impl…

Rehabilitation of severely resorbed maxillae with zygomatic implants: An update

2007

Studies highlight the zygomatic bone as a suitable anatomical structure for implant placements since they cross four corticals. Zygomatic implants were described by Branemark in 1998, since then zygomatic implants are indicated in maxillae with atrophy of the posterior area. They have been used in systemic diseases associated with bone loss in this area, and in patients who have suffered radical surgery for maxillofacial tumors. Computed tomography is recommended before placement in order to discount any pathology of the maxillary sinus. The surgical technique has been slightly modified since its description with procedures such as the sinus slot technique. The success rate obtained by diff…

Stafne's bone defect:a systematic review

2022

This systematic review integrated the available data published in the literature on Stafne?s bone defect (SBD), considering the clinical, imaging and histopathological results. An electronic search was undertaken in six databases. Eligibility criteria were: articles in English, Spanish, and Portuguese describing case reports or case series of SBD, reported up to September/2021. Risk of bias was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute tool. A total of 98 articles were retrieved, involving 465 individuals with SBD and were included for quantitative analysis. Mean age was 52.78 years (range: 11-89 years), with male predilection (n=374/80.85%). Radiographs were the most frequent imagiologica…

Surgical technique of the supraorbital key-hole craniotomy.

2003

BACKGROUND The enormous development of microsurgical techniques and instrumentation together with preoperative planning using the excellent preoperative diagnostic facilities available, enables neurosurgeons to treat more complicated diseases through smaller and more specific approaches. METHODS The technical details of the supraorbital key-hole craniotomy are described in this article as it has been evolving in our experience for more than 10 years. After an eyebrow skin incision with careful soft tissue dissection and single frontobasal burr-hole trephination, a supraorbital craniotomy is carried out with a diameter of about 1.5 x 2.5 cm. As a real frontolateral approach, the supraorbital…

Incidence of mandibular fractures in black sea region of Turkey

2015

Background: The aim of this study is to review the incidence of mandibular fractures in the Black Sea Region of Turkey and to present our treatment protocol. Material and Methods: Data were collected regarding age, sex, etiology, time distribution, site of the fracture and the associated injuries and evaluated. These patients were treated at Ondokuz Mayıs University Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery between 2003 and 2010. Data were collected from patient files in the archive and were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 software. Results: A total of 82 patients with 133 mandibular fractures were included in this study. After the follow up period of the patients, the results were achi…

Clinical patterns and characteristics of midfacial fractures in western romanian population: a 10-year retrospective study

2019

Background The aim of this study was to identify the clinical pattern of midfacial fractures and concomitant associated injuries in our geographical area, as well as to correlate them in order to determine the type of fracture with the highest incidence of associated injuries. Material and Methods A 10-year retrospective evaluation of midfacial fractures was performed in 379 patients. Results Zygomatic complex fractures had the highest incidence (n=242, 50%). The majority of the fractures were complete (n=561, 92.42%), closed (n=473, 84.16%) and without displacement (n=454, 80.78%) regardless of the location of the fracture line (p=0.014). All patients had at least one associated soft tissu…
