Functional exploration of the stress response in microorganisms of technological interest : dynamics of membrane response after an ethanol shock in S…
2015
The study of membrane response induced by ethanol stress in Saccharomyces cerevisiae aims to understand mechanisms involved in the survival of eukaryotic cells submitted to high ethanol concentrations. The cell membrane by its position between the intra- and extracellular environment is the first target of ethanolic perturbations. Experiments performed in this study aimed to characterize the maintain of the functional integrity of the membrane in relation to the sterol composition in the yeast S. cerevisiae submitted to different types of ethanolic disturbances: increasing concentrations of ethanol in the growth medium; ethanolic shocks of increasing magnitude; shock 20% ethanol for 15 minu…
Optimization and Improvement of a Novel HVOF Process Fueled with Ethanol
2022
The high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spray has become a process of choice for producing high performance cermet or alloy coatings. Common HVOF thermal spray systems classically use the combustion of gases, such as hydrogen, propane or a liquid fuel such as kerosene. However, there is currently a limited amount of literature on the use of ethanol as a fuel within HVOF processes and the performances of the resulting coatings are not well documented. Ethanol benefits from environmentally friendly features and is less polluting compared to conventional fossil liquid fuels (i.e. kerosene) as its combustion generates less nitrogen oxides and soot particles. In this work, we decide to investigate suc…
Procédé de Liquéfaction, Saccharification et Fermentation Simultanée à Très Haute Gravité utilisant de la farine de manioc pour la production de l'ét…

A simultaneous liquefaction, saccharification and fermentation (SLSF) process at very high gravity of cassava flour for potable ethanol production was developed at lab (1 L) and pilot scale (15 L and 1000 L). Cassava flour (CF) was mixed with tap water to obtain a concentration of 270 g/L dry matter. Sequentially, the mixture of a native starch hydrolyzing enzyme containing a mixture of alpha–amylase and gluco-amylase (Stargen 002 at 2565 GAU/kg CF), gluco-amylase (Amigase Mega L at 0.105% w/w), active dry yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Red Ethanol at 3,5 × 10^7 cells/ml), KH2PO4 (9,9 mM) and urea (16.0 mM) was added into cassava slurry. The SLSF-VHG process including three steps of liquef…
Cytochrome P450-dependent metabolism of caffeine in Drosophila melanogaster
2014
Caffeine (1, 3, 7-trimethylxanthine), an alkaloid produced by plants, has antioxidant and insecticide properties that can affect metabolism and cognition. In vertebrates, the metabolites derived from caffeine have been identified, and their functions have been characterized. However, the metabolites of caffeine in insects remain unknown. Thus, using radiolabelled caffeine, we have identified some of the primary caffeine metabolites produced in the body of Drosophila melanogaster males, including theobromine, paraxanthine and theophylline. In contrast to mammals, theobromine was the predominant metabolite (paraxanthine in humans; theophylline in monkeys; 1, 3, 7-trimethyluric acid in rodents…
