MEMORIA DE TRABAJO EN NIÑOS DE EDUCACIÓN INFANTIL CON Y SIN BAJO RENDIMIENTO MATEMÁTICO

2014

Abstract:This study aims to explore working memory in preschool children with and without low mathematical performance. The sample consisted of 255 children aged 5-6 years, to whom were administered neuropsychological tests of working memory and TEDI-MATH to estimate the mathematical performance. The results highlight the capacity of verbal working memory to significantly differentiate groups of children with and without problems in 8 of the 9 analyzed mathematical domains. This factor together with visuospatial working memory differentiate the group of children at risk for mathematical learning disabilities. Keywords: working memory, preschool, math performance, mathematics learning disabil…

Effects of a Psychosocial Intervention on the Executive Functioning in Children With ADHD

2011

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of an intensive psychosocial intervention on the executive functioning (EF) in children with ADHD. The treatment was carried out in a coordinated manner over a period of 10 weeks with 27 children with ADHD aged 7 to 10, their parents, and their teachers. A battery of neuropsychological tasks was applied to evaluate attention, interference control, verbal and visuospatial working memory, planning ability, and flexibility. The comparative analysis of the treated group of ADHD children and an untreated ADHD group showed significant differences that were especially important in visuospatial memory and planning in favor of the treated childre…

EFECTOS A LARGO PLAZO DE UNA INTERVENCIÓN PSICOSOCIAL EN EL CONTEXTO FAMILIAR DE NIÑOS CON TDAH

2016

Abstract. The aim of this study was to analyze the long-term effects of an intervention that integrated three programs implemented with 27 children with ADHD combined subtype of 7 to 10 years old, their parents and their teachers. The intervention lasted 10 weeks and included behavior modification, cognitive behavioral techniques, social skills and academic accommodations. Effects on different variables of family functioning were assessed. The results show that significant improvements observed after treatment in virtually all the variables analyzed are not mostly maintained a year later. Complementary analyzes show, in line with the results obtained after treatment, lowers results in the su…

Motivation and Mathematics Performance: A Longitudinal Study in Early Educational Stages

2017

Abstract This longitudinal study analyses the predictive value of a set of motivational variables on academic performance in the mathematics area. Analyses were performed on a sample of 180 children, with the data evaluated in two stages in formal educational settings (from kindergarten until 2nd year of Primary School). Likewise, differences between three groups (with low, average, and high mathematical performance at the end of second year of Primary School) in motivational and attributional variables assessed initially are also studied. The results show a significant predictive power on later mathematics achievement for self-perceived competence. Also persistence, attitude, and positive …

Motivation and academic achievement in mathematics: a longitudinal study in the early stages of education

2017

Contributions of Motivation, Early Numeracy Skills, and Executive Functioning to Mathematical Performance. A Longitudinal Study

2018

The main goal of this longitudinal study is to examine the power of different variables and its dynamic interactions in predicting mathematical performance. The model proposed in this study includes indicators of motivational constructs (learning motivation and attributions), executive functioning (inhibition and working memory), and early numeracy skills (logical operations, counting, and magnitude comparison abilities), assessed during kindergarten, and mathematical performance in the second year of Primary Education. The sample consisted of 180 subjects assessed in two moments (5–6 and 7–8 years old). The results showed an indirect effect of initial motivation on later mathematical perfo…
