Measurements of direct CP asymmetries in B -> X-s gamma decays using sum of exclusive decays

2014

We measure the direct CP violation asymmetry, A(CP), in B -> X-s gamma and the isospin difference of the asymmetry, Delta A(CP), using 429 fb(-1) of data collected at Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP- II asymmetric- energy e(+)e(-) storage rings operating at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. B mesons are reconstructed from ten charged B final states and six neutral B final states. We find A(CP) = +(1.7 +/- 1.9 +/- 1.0)%, which is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and provides an improvement on the world average. Moreover, we report the first measurement of the difference between A(CP) for charged and neutral decay modes, Delta A(CP) = +(5.0 +/- …

Search for a Dark Photon in e(+)e(-) Collisions at BABAR

2014

Dark sectors charged under a new Abelian interaction have recently received much attention in the context of dark matter models. These models introduce a light new mediator, the so-called dark photon (A'), connecting the dark sector to the standard model. We present a search for a dark photon in the reaction e(+)e(-) ->gamma A', A' -> e(+)e(-), mu(+) mu(-) using 514 fb(-1) of data collected with the BABAR detector. We observe no statistically significant deviations from the standard model predictions, and we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the mixing strength between the photon and dark photon at the level of 10(-4) ¿ 10(-3) for dark photon masses in the range 0.02-10.2 GeV. Dalitz plot analysis of eta(c) -> K+K-eta and eta(c) -> K+K-pi(0) in two-photon interactions

2014

We study the processes gamma gamma -> K+K-eta and gamma gamma -> K+K-pi(0) using a data sample of 519 fb(-1) recorded with the BABAR detector operating at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at center-of-mass energies at and near the Upsilon(nS) (n = 2, 3, 4) resonances. Time-integrated luminosity recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) collider

2013

We describe a measurement of the time-integrated luminosity of the data collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at the Upsilon(4S), Upsilon(3S), and Upsilon(2S) resonances and in a continuum region below each resonance. We measure the time-integrated luminosity by counting e(+)e(-)-> e(+)e(-) and (for the Upsilon(4S) only) e(+)e(-)->mu(+)mu(-) candidate events, allowing additional photons in the final state. We use data-corrected simulation to determine the cross-sections and reconstruction efficiencies for these processes, as well as the major backgrounds. Due to the large cross-sections of e(+)e(-)-> e(+)e(-) and e(+)e(-)->mu(+)mu(-), the statis…

Measurement of the B -> X(s)l(+)l(-) Branching Fraction and Search for Direct CP Violation from a Sum of Exclusive Final States

2014

We measure the total branching fraction of the flavor-changing neutral-current process B -> X(s)l(+)l(-), along with partial branching fractions in bins of dilepton and hadronic system (X-s) mass, using a sample of 471 x 10(6)Upsilon(4S) -> B (B) over bar events recorded with the BABAR detector. Search for new pi(0)-like particles produced in association with a tau-lepton pair

2014

We report on a search in e(+)e(-) annihilations for new pi(0)-like particles produced in association with a tau-lepton pair. These objects, with a similar mass and similar decay modes to pi(0) mesons, could provide an explanation for the non-asymptotic behavior of the pion-photon transition form factor observed by the BABAR Collaboration. No significant signal is observed, and limits on the production cross section at the level of 73 fb or 370 fb, depending on the model parameters, are determined at 90% confidence level. These upper limits lie below the cross section values needed to explain the BABAR form factor data.

We study the processes e+e- -> K0S K0L gamma, K0S K0L pi+ pi- gamma, K0S K0S pi+ pi- gamma, and K0S K0S K+ K- gamma, where the photon is radiated from the initial state, providing cross section measurements for the hadronic states over a continuum of center-of-mass energies. The results are based on 469 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC. We observe the phi(1020) resonance in the K0S K0L final state and measure the product of its electronic width and branching fraction with about 3% uncertainty. We present a measurement of the e+e- -> K0S K0L cross section in the energy range from 1.06 to 2.2 GeV and observe the production of a resonance at 1.67 GeV. We present the first…

Measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in B-0 -> (rho pi)(0) decays using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis

2013

We present results for a time-dependent Dalitz plot measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in the mode B-0 -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0). The data set is derived from the complete sample of 471 x 10(6) B (B) over bar meson pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory operating on the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We extract parameters describing the time-dependent B-0 -> rho pi decay probabilities and CP asymmetries, including C = 0.016 +/- 0.059 +/- 0.036, Delta C = 0.234 +/- 0.061 +/- 0.048, S = 0.053 +/- 0.081 +/- 0.034, and Delta S = 0.054 +/- 0.082 +/- 0.039, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, …

Evidence of B+ -> tau(+)nu decays with hadronic B tags

2013

We present a search for the decay B+ -> tau(+)nu using 467.8 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. We select a sample of events with one completely reconstructed B- in the hadronic decay mode (B- -> D-(*X-)0(-) and B- -> J/psi X-). We examine the rest of the event to search for a B+ -> tau(+)nu decay. We identify the tau(+) lepton in the following modes: tau(+) -> e(+)nu(nu) over bar, tau(+) -> mu(+)nu(nu) over bar, tau(+) -> pi(+)(nu) over bar and tau(+) -> rho(+)(nu) over bar. We find an excess of events with respect to the expected background, which excludes the null signal hypothesis at the level of 3.8 …

Branching fraction measurement of B+ -> omega l(+)nu decays

2013

We present a measurement of the B+ -> omega l(+)nu branching fraction based on a sample of 467 million B (B) over bar pairs recorded by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e(+)e(-) collider. We observe 1125 +/- 131 signal decays, corresponding to a branching fraction of B(B+ -> omega l(+)nu) = (1.21 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.08) x 10(-4), where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The dependence of the decay rate on q(2), the invariant mass squared of the leptons, is compared to QCD predictions of the form factors based on a quark model and light-cone sum rules.

Production of charged pions, kaons, and protons in e(+)e(-) annihilations into hadrons at root s=10.54 GeV

2013

Inclusive production cross sections of pi(+/-), K-+/- and p/(p) over bar per hadronic e(+)e(-) annihilation event are measured at a center-of-mass energy of 10.54 GeV, using a relatively small sample of very high quality data from the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B-factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The drift chamber and Cherenkov detector provide clean samples of identified pi(+/-), K-+/-, and p/(p) over bar over a wide range of momenta. Since the center-of-mass energy is below the threshold to produce a B (B) over bar pair, with B a bottom-quark meson, these data represent a pure e(+)e(-) -> q (q) over bar sample with four quark flavors, and are used to test QCD predic…

Measurement of the e(+)e(-) -> p(p)over-bar cross section in the energy range from 3.0 to 6.5 GeV

2013

The e(+)e(-) -> p (p) over bar cross section and the proton magnetic form factor have been measured in the center-of-mass energy range from 3.0 to 6.5 GeV using the initial-state radiation technique with an undetected photon. This is the first measurement of the form factor at energies higher than 4.5 GeV. The analysis is based on 469 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider at e(+)e(-) center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. The branching fractions for the decays J/psi -> p (p) over bar and psi(2S) -> p (p) over bar have also been measured.

Light quark ($uds$) Collins asymmetries obtained by fitting the U/L and U/C double ratios as a function of ($z_1$,$z_2$) for $K\pi$ hadron pairs. In the first column, the $z$ bins and their respective mean values for the hadron ($K$ or $\pi$) in one hemisphere are reported; in the following column, the same variables for the second hadron ($K$ or $\pi$) are shown; in the third column the mean value of $\sin^2\theta_{th}/(1+\cos^2\theta_{th})$ is summarized, calculated in the RF12 frame; in the last two columns the asymmetry results are summarized. The mean values of the quantities reported in the table are calculated by summing the corresponding values for each $K\pi$ pair and dividing by t…
