A short message service (SMS)-based strategy for enhancing adherence to antipsychotic medication in schizophrenia
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to assess the impact of a short message service (SMS)-based strategy on adherence to antipsychotic treatment. Methods A multicentre, randomised, open-label, controlled, 6-month study with clinically stabilised outpatients with schizophrenia was conducted. The patients assigned to the intervention received daily SMS reminders to take their medication for 3 months. ObjectiveTo assess the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the SWN scale, an instrument which evaluates the subjective experience of psychotic patients towards neuroleptic treatment.MethodsA validation study (feasibility, reliability, and validity) was conducted in 20 psychiatric centers. Patients were evaluated with the PANSS, the CGI severity scale and the SWN-20. A re-test was conducted one week after baseline. Resumen Fundamento y objetivo La experiencia subjetiva de los pacientes psicoticos con el tratamiento neuroleptico es un factor clave en la adherencia terapeutica, calidad de vida y pronostico. El objetivo de este trabajo fue realizar la adaptacion cultural al castellano de la Escala del Bienestar Subjetivo con Neurolepticos (SWN-K) y analizar sus propiedades psicometricas en pacientes con esquizofrenia.
