Performance evaluation of the MPE-iFEC Sliding RS Encoding for DVB-H streaming services

This article studies the performance of the Sliding RS Encoding (SRSE) in the transmission of streaming services in DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - Transmission System for Handheld Terminals) networks. The SRSE forms part of a set of specifications called MPE-iFEC which has been recently defined in the DVB-SH (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite Services to Handheld Devices) standard and is fully compatible with the link layer of DVB-H. Hopfield Neural Network - Based Approach for Joint Dynamic Resource Allocation in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to solve the problem of joint dynamic resource allocation (JDRA) in heterogeneous wireless networks using a Hopfield neural network (HNN). A generic formulation for packet services with delay constraints is proposed to decide the optimal bit rate and radio access technology (RAT) allocation. Some illustrative simulations results in a basic scenario are presented to evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm.

Filecasting for streaming content delivery in IP datacast over DVB-H systems

In this paper we investigate the potential gain that can be obtained in DVB-H by delivering streaming content as a succession of time-constrained flies using Application Layer - Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) for improving the reception for mobile terminals. A Delay-Centric Dynamic Resource Allocation Algorithm for Wireless Communication Systems Based on HNN

This paper proposes a dynamic resource-allocation (DRA) algorithm for packet data services in wireless communication systems based on Hopfleld neural networks (HNNs). The resource-allocation algorithm assumes a delay-centric approach in that it maximizes resource utilization of the overall system while minimizing the packet delay. The real-time (RT) working capability of HNN hardware implementation means that a very powerful scheduling DRA algorithm can be obtained. Multicast delivery of file download services in 3G mobile networks with MBMS

This article investigates the efficient transmission of file download services to several users simultaneously in 3G mobile networks with HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services). HSDPA supports high speed point-to-point (p-t-p) transmissions (up to several Mb/s), whereas with MBMS the same content can be transmitted with a point-to-multipoint (p-t-m) connection to multiple users in a unidirectional fashion. Repair Mechanisms for Broadcast Transmissions in Hybrid Cellular & DVB-H Systems

This paper proposes a framework for investigating potential infrastructure cost savings in hybrid cellular and DVB- H systems by performing efficient error repair of broadcast transmissions. The main idea is to reuse as much as possible the existing network infrastructure to provide mobile TV services. The cellular system is not only employed to collect information, but also to send repair data to the users whose conditions are temporarily affected by noise, interference and fading. To enable an easy and efficient implementation of the repair mechanisms we adopt the use of application layer - forward error correction (AL-FEC) with digital fountain coding.
