For the reading of an extract of The Story of Gil Blas of Santillane, a picaresque narrative and a novel about social ascension from the beginning of XVIII th century, we will question some of the processes and effects of the foolish narration. We come across the model of the farce, the games of parody, the controversial genre of satire : on the one hand, they aim to make the readerlaugh or smile, but they also give rise to thinking, especially when, all things considered, the « moral judgement » is so to speakimpeded.

The desire for speed awoke in the eighteenth century. The changes from horse manure to horsepower during the nineteenth century, from massive locomotion to individual locomotion at the end of the century, from external combustion engines to internal combustion piston engines, and from machines tracing linear paths along the ground to machines flying in circles in the sky in the twentieth century, all mark decisive thresholds in the acceleration, not only in the history of civilization, but also in that of literature. This essay on literary kinetics shows that the aesthetic superstructures are also linked to material infrastructure.

Au tournant des années 70, la République des Lettres est en deuil. On avait proclamé la "mort de l'auteur", devenu une voix anonyme ; le personnage de l'écrivain - son visage, sa signature -, disparu, le texte existait par lui-même, hors de toute origine. Le "moment théorique" de la littérature française s'est éloigné, à mesure que faisaient retour la figure de l'auteur et le biographique. Mais le soupçon a laissé des traces. A l'aube du XXIe siècle, ce collectif s'interroge ainsi sur la place et la légitimité de l'auteur, partagé entre la tentation du repli sur l'écriture et le souci du monde.
