Sex-role orientation and memory for gender-related terms: Another uncertain link
Two studies are reported which investigate the relationship between sex-role orientation and memory for gender-related terms. Based on the concept of ‘cognitive schema’, theoretical models have recently been advanced suggesting that the schematic cognitive representation of gender facilitates the recall of words pertinent to gender. One of these models, Markus' self-schema theory, proposes that masculine and feminine sex-typed individuals have a better memory for terms that correspond to their respective self-schemata. Faking personality profiles on a standard personality inventory
Abstract A study is reported which investigates the fakeability of personality profiles as measured by a standard personality inventory, the Freiburger Personlichkeitsinventar (FPI). Unlike previous studies investigating laypersons' ability to fake a global good or bad impression, the present study examined individuals' ability to fake a specific personality profile. Four groups of subjects were instructed to fake their FPI scores so as to present themselves as high vs low scorers on the “social orientation” dimension or high vs low scorers on the “achievement orientation” dimension.
