On the numerical scheme employed in gyrotron interaction simulations

We report on the influence of the numerical scheme employed in gyrotron interaction simulations. Results obtained with the Crank-Nicolson scheme are compared with those obtained with the Backward Time – Centred Space (BTCS) fully implicit scheme. We present realistic cases where, for discretisation parameters in the range usually used in gyrotron simulations, the results can be very different. Hence, the numerical scheme used can be responsible for obscuring the underlying physics if its convergence is not tested carefully.

Design of the EU-1MW gyrotron for ITER

EU is developing a 1 MW cylindrical cavity gyrotron. In the last year the design of the components of the new gyrotron has been finalized while the technological design of the new tube has been defined. In the present paper, the main characteristics of the new EU gyrotron for ITER are presented.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia in adults with bronchiectasis: Data from the Embarc registry

Introduction: Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is an inherited cause of bronchiectasis where defects in motile cilia result in failure to clear mucus. Individuals have life-long productive cough and recurrent infections Methods: The embarc registry is a prospective pan-European observational study of adults with bronchiectasis. Data entered into the registry between March 2015 and Jan 2018 was assessed. Disease severity in PCD was compared to two age and gender matched cohorts, the first consisting of individuals with immune deficiency and a second with idiopathic disease. Results: 287/11204 individuals (2.6%) were reported to have PCD. 65% were female, reflecting the female predominance in…
