Computational thermofluid-dynamic analysis of DEMO divertor cassette body cooling circuit

Abstract Within the framework of the Work Package Divertor, Subproject: Cassette Design and Integration (WPDIV-Cassette) of the EUROfusion action, a research campaign has been jointly carried out by ENEA and University of Palermo to investigate the thermal-hydraulic performances of the DEMO divertor cassette cooling system. The research activity has been carried out following a theoretical-computational approach based on the finite volume method and adopting a qualified Computational Fluid-Dynamic (CFD) code. Fully-coupled fluid-structure CFD analyses have been carried out for the recently-revised cassette body cooling circuit under nominal steady state conditions, imposing a non-uniform sp…

Partial trisomy 9p and partial monosomy 6q resulting from paternal reciprocal translocation 6;9: Overlapping manifestations of characteristic phenotypes from birth to age 4 years

We report on a female infant with partial trisomy 9p (p13.3→pter) and monosomy 6q (q26-qter) resulting from a paternal balanced reciprocal traslocation t(6;9)(q26;p13.3). Both trisomy 9p and monosomy 6q are recognized phenotypes with characteristic patterns of anomalies. This patient is the first reported with a partial deletion 6q and a partial duplication 9p resulting in an overlapping phenotype including intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), craniofacial and skeletal abnormalities, congenital heart defect, hypotonia and developmental delay. We present the clinical follow-up of this patient from birth to age 4 years: the phenotypic manifestations of trisomy 9p syndrome are mildly expres…

Bryophyte diversity in some Sicilian protected areas

The results of some investigations carried out in two Sicilian protected areas characterized by chalky reliefs are reported. These are the Serre di Ciminna and Monte Conca reserves. The Oriented Nature Reserve of Serre di Ciminna is located in northwestern Sicily, in the province of Palermo. Established in 1997 to protect the interesting karst phenomena in a vast macro-crystalline gypsum outcrop of the Messinian age, the series of "collapse valleys" and a swallowtail, the reserve falls within the Rocche di Ciminna, Site of Community Importance (SIC) (code ITA 020024). It includes some habitats of Community interest: pseudo-steppes with grasses and annuals of the Thero-Brachypodietea (code 6…

Hypercalciuria and kidney calcifications in terminal 4q deletion syndrome: further evidence for a putative gene on 4q.

We report a newborn girl with a de novo terminal 4q deletion (q31.3 --> qter) and a characteristic phenotype of minor facial anomalies, cleft palate, congenital heart defect, abnormalities of hands and feet, and postnatal onset of growth deficiency. Laboratory studies showed excessive urinary calcium excretion on standard milk formula and on oral calcium load. Blood measurements of parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, bicarbonate, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, potassium, and urinary measurements of phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, potassium were normal for age. At 2 months of life, ultrasonography showed kidney calcifications. Clinical and laboratory data support the…

The clinical efficacy of SLIT has been established in a number of clinical trials and meta-analyses. However, because SLIT is self-administered…

On the thermal-hydraulic optimization of DEMO divertor plasma facing components cooling circuit

Attention has been focussed on the divertor Plasma Facing Components (PFCs) cooling circuit and a parametric analysis has been carried out in order to assess the potential impact of proper layout changes on its thermal-hydraulic performances, mainly in terms of coolant total pressure drop, flow velocity distribution and margin against critical heat flux occurrence. The r…

Indagini briologiche in aree urbane: diversità briofitica dei centri abitati di Erice (Trapani) e Belmonte Mezzagno (Palermo).

Bryologic surveys in urban areas: bryophyte diversity of the population centers of Erice (province of Trapani) and Belmonte Mezzagno ((province of Palermo). The bryophytic flora of the towns of Erice (Trapani) and Belmonte Mezzagno (Palermo) have been studied. The first consists of 53 taxa (42 mosses and 11 liverwort), two of which are new for the province of Trapani, the second of 40 taxa (38 mosses and 2 liverworts), one of which new for the province of Palermo. A comparison between the studied bryofloras and those of other Sicilian urban areas shows that Erice’s bryophytic flora is, given its size, rich in species and families.

GERMLINE PROKINETICIN RECEPTOR 2 (PROKR2) VARIANTS ASSOCIATED WITH CENTRAL HYPOGONADISM CAUSE DIFFERENTAL MODULATION OF DISTINCT INTRACELLULAR PATHWAYS.

INTRODUCTION: Defects of prokineticin pathway affect the neuroendocrine control of reproduction, but their role in the pathogenesis of central hypogonadism remains undefined, and the functional impact of the missense PROKR2 variants has been incompletely characterized. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In a series of 246 idiopathic central hypogonadism patients, we found three novel (p.V158I, p.V334M, and p.N15TfsX30) and six already known (p.L173R, p.T260M, p.R268C, p.V274D, p.V331M, and p.H20MfsX23) germline variants in the PROKR2 gene. We evaluated the effects of seven missense alterations on two different prokineticin receptor 2 (PROKR2)-dependent pathways: inositol phosphate-Ca(2+) (Gq coupling) a…
