Experimental investigations of two doubly excited NI multiplets

Experimental Stark-broadening studies of two NI multiplets ( 1 D)3s 2 D - ( 1 D)3p 2 D° and ( 1 D)3s 2 D - ( 1 D) 3 p 2 F° are reported. Measurements were performed using a wall-stabilized arc operated at atmospheric pressure in helium with small amounts of nitrogen and hydrogen. The Stark broadening parameters: the electron impact width (w e ) and shift (d e ) have been determined.

Studies of the bromine spectrum and determination of transition probabilities for Br I and Br II lines

In a wall-stabilized cascade arc at atmospheric pressure in mixtures of argon and bromine vapors thermal plasmas were generated. Arc currents between 25 and 60 A were used. Applying a spectrometer of medium dispersion, equipped with an optical multichannel analyzer (CCD detector), the spectra of neutral and singly ionized bromine in the range between 3300 and 10400 A were recorded. Line intensity measurements, corrected for self-absorption, at different operating conditions of the arc, were performed. A complete set of Br I transitions (5 lines) originating from a common upper level (branching fractions) was measured. In the case of the Br II spectrum intensities of 14 lines were determined…

Relative Transition Probability Measurements for Prominent Infrared Spectral Lines of NI

Applying a high-current wall-stabilized arc operated either in helium or in argon always with some admixtures of nitrogen, relative transition probabilities for more than 100 individual spectral lines (fine structure components) have been measured. The studied lines belong mainly to the 3p–3d and 3p–4s transition arrays. Ten lines of the measured set are intersystem transitions. Our data are compared with other experimental results (for about one half of the studied set there are available), with evaluated on the basis of the LS coupling scheme, with semiempirical data, and with recent CIV3 calculations. Some of our results are compared also with experimental data for the next member of the…

Experimental and theoretical Stark broadening studies of the hydrogen Paschen beta line.

Experimental and theoretical Stark broadening studies of the Paschen beta line of hydrogen (lambda=1.28 microm) are reported. Line shape measurements were performed at electron densities of the plasma between 3.5 x 10(15) cm(-3) and 7.5 x 10(15) cm(-3), applying as the light source a wall-stabilized arc operated at atmospheric pressure in a helium-hydrogen gas mixture. The radiation of the plasma, emitted from nearly homogeneous plasma layers in the end-on direction, was registered with the use of a grating spectrometer equipped with a charge coupled device detector. The measured light outputs were calibrated against signals obtained from a tungsten strip radiation standard. The experimenta…

Stark effect in some lines of neutral bromine

Abstract This work presents experimental results of profile parameters for prominent lines of neutral bromine, for which serious discrepancies between experimental values of different authors as well as between experimental and calculated values were observed. The observed discrepancies between shock tube and earlier arc experiments are very large. Our results of profile parameters, obtained also in a wall-stabilized arc, show acceptable agreement with the earlier arc measurements. It is obvious, that the shock tube experimental result is out of the range of acceptable inaccuracy and should be remeasured. The theoretical calculations based on different assumptions give also strongly diverge…

Calibration of the width of the NI spectral line at for electron density determination

Abstract The Stark broadening of a NI spectral line at 7915.42 A has been calibrated for electron density determination of low temperature plasmas. The determined simple formula based on measured FWHM is applicable in the electron density range from 3×1015 to 10 16 cm −3 .

Diagnostics of Helium-Argon Arc Discharge Plasma Based on Spectral Line Shape Measurements

Electron densities and ion (gas) temperatures on the axis of an arc discharge plasma, produced at atmospheric pressure in a gas mixture of 95% helium and 5% argon, are determined at two arc currents. The evaluation of both main plasma parameters is based on line shape measurements, the ion temperature on the Doppler broadening of selected ArII lines, while the electron density on the Stark broadening of the hydrogen Hp line which appear in the spectrum due to hydrogen traces in the applied gases. The significance of reliable plasma diagnostics for determination of atomic structure data is discussed.

Paschen β line shape studies in low-temperature plasmas

Line shape calculations and measurements of the Paschen β line of hydrogen (λ=12818 Å) are reported. Measurements were performed at electron densities of the plasma between 1015 cm-3 and 1016 cm-3. A wall-stabilized arc operated at atmospheric pressure in a helium-hydrogen gas mixture was applied as the excitation source. The radiation of the plasma, originating from nearly homogeneous plasma layers, in the end-on direction, was analyzed. A grating spectrometer equipped with a CCD detector was used for the radiation detection. The measured line profiles are compared with results of available experimental and theoretical Stark broadening data e.g. based on simulation techniques, applied also…

Experimental Stark-broadening studies of the NI multiplet $\mathsf{(^{1}D) 3s^{2}D - (^{1}D)3p^{2}P^{o}}$ at 7904.5

Experimental Stark-broadening studies of the NI multiplet $(^{1}{\rm D})3s$ $^{2}{\rm D} - (^{1}{\rm D})3p$ $^{2}{\rm P}^{\rm o}$ are reported. Line shape measurements were performed using a wall-stabilized arc operated at atmospheric pressure in helium with small amounts of nitrogen and hydrogen. The radiation of the plasma emitted from nearly homogeneous plasma layers in end-on direction was measured using a grating spectrometer equipped with a charge-coupled device (CCD) detector. The arc current was varied from 35 to 50 A in order to obtain different plasma conditions (electron densities and temperatures). The so-called j(x) profiles of Griem, convoluted with the corresponding Doppler a…

Stark broadening measurements and calculations of the Paschen γ spectral line of hydrogen ( λ = 1.094[: MU :] m) are reported. Investigations have been performed at plasma electron densities between 1.4×10 15 cm -3 and 3.7×10 15 cm -3 . As the light source a wall-stabilized arc operated in a helium-hydrogen gas mixture at atmospheric pressure has been applied. The radiation of the plasma emitted from nearly homogeneous plasma layers in end-on direction, was measured with the use of a grating spectrometer equipped with a charge coupled device (CCD) detector. The radiance calibration was carried out against light outputs originating from a tungsten strip radiation standard. The measured FWHM …
