Angioleiomyoma affecting the lips : report of 3 cases and review of the literature

Angioleiomyoma is an uncommon benign soft tissue tumor usually found in the lower extremities and rarely observed in oral tissues. It is microscopically characterized as a proliferation of smooth muscle cells intermingled with abundant vascular channels. Oral angioleiomyomas affect mostly the lips, palate, buccal mucosa and tongue, and appears as a submucosal painless nodule. Upper lip is seldom affected and only few cases have been reported. We report three additional cases of angioleiomyoma affecting the lips of elderly patients. All lesions were asymptomatic and presented as submucosal nodules of approximately 1cm. Geographic stomatitis is an uncommon inflammatory condition of unknown etiology. It is characterized by reddish areas surrounded by white borders affecting any location in the oral cavity and presenting a migratory and cyclic pattern. The most common affected sites include buccal mucosa, labial mucosa and mucobuccal fold. Some patients can complain of pain or burning sensation. Large intraoral spindle cell lipoma

Lipomas are relatively common benign neoplasms composed by mature fat cells. Apart from conventional lipomas, several other subtypes have been described in the oral cavity, including fibrolipoma, myxoid lipoma, angiolipoma, myolipoma, chondrolipoma, osteolipoma and spindle cell lipoma (SCL). Intraoral SCL is rare, representing from 1.4% to 9.8% of all intraoral lipomas. The aim of the present study is to report a case of a large intraoral SCL of the buccal mucosa affecting a 46-year-old male, calling attention to its clinical and histological features and to its successfull surgical conservative management. Peripheral odontogenic keratocyst: Report of two new cases and review of the literature

Peripheral odontogenic keratocyst (POKC) is a rare soft tissue entity showing the same histological characteristics of odontogenic keratocyst. Herein, we report two cases of POKC affecting the gingiva/alveolar mucosa. Case 1. A 43-year-old female was referred for evaluation of a painless well-defined nodular, sessile, non-tender swelling in the right maxillary buccal gingiva. No radiological alterations were observed. The patient was submitted to excisional biopsy and histological diagnosis was POKC. There were no signs of local recurrence after a 4-year follow-up. Case 2.
