Characterization and Evaluation of Hydrothermal Liquefaction Char from Alkali Lignin in Subcritical Temperatures.

An evaluation of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) char is investigated in this work. Morphological studies, N2 adsorption behavior, FTIR analysis, thermal behavior, and elemental composition are studied. The HTL char yield showed an increase with higher operating temperatures. It increased from 11.02% to 33% when the temperature increased from 573 K to 623 K. At lower temperatures, the residence time showed an impact on the yield, while close to the critical point, residence time became less impactful. Adsorption of Alcohols Onto Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) Crystal Surface

Adsorption behaviour of ZnSe, a popular material used in the manufacture of crystals for total internal reflectance techniques was studied for the adsorption of alcohols from dichloromethane solutions using infrared spectrometry. A series of n-alcohols were used in this study. The results show that the integrated area for the hydrogen bonded OH stretchings decrease and suggests that there is a continuous adsorption of alcohol molecules onto the ZnSe crystal by breaking the hydrogen bonds between alcohol molecules in solution.

The adsorption and desorption of water molecules from α, β and γ-cyclodextrins were studied by gravimetric and thermogravimetric analysis. Cyclodextrins like all the other carbohydrates have tendency to adsorb water molecules. However, their cyclic nature tends to affect the adsorption patterns. The cyclic nature of the cyclodextrins facilitates the formation of hydrogen bondings between OH groups of the neighbouring glucose units. The C2(1)-OH forms hydrogen bonding with C3(2)-OH. The extent of the hydrogen bond formation and strength of the hydrogen bond affect the way the adsorption and dehydration of water molecules from cyclodextrins take place.
