The habitat monitoring under article 17 of the 92/43/eec Directive in Italy: the contribution of vegetation science
The 4th National Report ex Art. 17 of the 92/43/EEC Directive in Italy (period 2013-2018) will try to fill a number of gaps still affecting the former versions of the Italian Reports, where territorial data were still missing for large parts of the country and the assessment was mostly based on the use of the expert opinion. Similar inconsistencies also emerged in other European countries (State of nature in the EU, EEA 2015). In order to reach this aim, a nationally shared protocol for monitoring the vegetation-based Annex I Habitats is currently under development. The most prominent issues addressed by the ongoing project are: i) fixing standardized, updated and scientifically grounded me…
Fatty acid composition of a cultured sturgeon hybrid (Acipenser naccarii · A. baerii)
Analyses of fatty acids from the dorsal muscle of Acipenser naccarii · A. baerii sturgeon hybrid were carried out. The data were compared with those reported in the literature for other sturgeons reared for human consumption. This hybrid would seem to be of great nutritional interest, its flesh being more beneficial for human health than those of other cultured sturgeons. In fact, the level of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) was very high (34.7 ± 0.67%), being similar to that of monounsaturated fatty acids (37.9 ± 0.83%). Moreover, the PUFAs-n3/PUFAs-n6 ratio (6.74) was noticeably higher in this hybrid than in the other cultured sturgeon species. There were also high contents of EPA (C2…
Local mechanical and morphological characterization of FSW butt joints
In this paper the results of an experimental investigation into the local mechanical and morphological characterization of AA6082-T6 friction stir-welded (FSW) butt joints are illustrated. The softening effects of the welding process are highlighted through the use of micro-indentation tests on the top surface of the specimens. The effect of post-welding heat treatments was investigated, also

Caratterizzazione del pattern lipidico e degli acidi grassi del muscolo dell’ibrido Acipenser naccarii (Bonaparte, 1836) x A. baerii (Brandt, 1869) e del reciproco A. baerii x A. naccarii.
Muscle phospholipids and tryglicerides were measured in two sturgeon (Acipenseridae) hybrids. Fatty acid composition of the two lipidic fractions showed a strong similarity between the two hybrids.

Forgeability characterization of multi-material based functionally graded materials manufactured through friction stir consolidation
Solid state recycling allows direct recycling of metal chips into semi-finished products. This process category proved to lower the environmental impact of metals recycling. Friction stir consolidation (FSC) is a new solid-state technique taking advantage of friction heat generation and severe plastic deformation to consolidate chips into billets. The new frontier of FSC process could be its evolution from recycling techniques towards the concept of upcycling technique: reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original. The authors have recently successfully applied FSC for producing multi-material based functionally grad…

Introduction The first clinical use of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) was described over a century ago by Emerson C. Angell in 1860.1 Since then, numerous appliances have been designed to apply orthopedic forces during expansion, thus limiting movement of teeth and maximizing skeletal displacement. However, a component of orthodontic effects following RME has been described by numerous authors. A relevant concern in this regard is represented by the possible periodontal consequences of RME because of risk of damage to the buccal cortical plate of alveolar bone in the correspondence of anchorage teeth and/or the development of recessions. Most investigations have analyzed the dentoskeletal e…
