The recoil transfer chamber—An interface to connect the physical preseparator TASCA with chemistry and counting setups

2011

Performing experiments with transactinide elements demands highly sensitive detection methods due to the extremely low production rates (one-atom-at-a-time conditions). Preseparation with a physical recoil separator is a powerful method to significantly reduce the background in experiments with sufficiently long-lived isotopes (t1/2≥0.5 s). In the last years, the new gas-filled TransActinide Separator and Chemistry Apparatus (TASCA) was installed and successfully commissioned at GSI. Here, we report on the design and performance of a Recoil Transfer Chamber (RTC) for TASCA—an interface to connect various chemistry and counting setups with the separator. Chronically Elevated Interleukin-6 Disturbs the Coagulation Cascade in Mice

2021

Abstract Introduction: Pro-inflammatory cytokines play an essential role as activators of the hemostatic system and in the regulation of physiological antithrombotic mechanisms. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) influences platelet production and platelet activation. It was associated with accelerated clotting and intravascular coagulation in tissue factor (TF)-driven murine thrombosis models. However, the precise role of myeloid cell-derived IL-6 on thrombosis formation and the hemostatic system is still unknown. Methods and Results: To better understand the role of IL-6 in thrombosis and the hemostatic system, we developed a new mouse strain with Cre-recombinase driven constitutive IL-6 expression spe…

Trans-presentation of IL-6 by dendritic cells is required for the priming of pathogenic TH17 cells

2016

The cellular sources of interleukin 6 (IL-6) that are relevant for differentiation of the TH17 subset of helper T cells remain unclear. Here we used a novel strategy for the conditional deletion of distinct IL-6-producing cell types to show that dendritic cells (DCs) positive for the signaling regulator Sirpα were essential for the generation of pathogenic TH17 cells. Using their IL-6 receptor α-chain (IL-6Rα), Sirpα+ DCs trans-presented IL-6 to T cells during the process of cognate interaction. While ambient IL-6 was sufficient to suppress the induction of expression of the transcription factor Foxp3 in T cells, trans-presentation of IL-6 by DC-bound IL-6Rα (called 'IL-6 cluster signaling'…
