Latvian College Students' Perspectives on Inclusion

Abstract This study reports on the perspectives of 79 Latvian college students' perception of inclusion of children with disabilities. Education majors from the University of Latvia and non-education majors from Riga Technical University responded to a 27-item Likert scale format and four open-ended questions by filling out an electronic survey. A principal components factor analysis of the data was conducted yielding three factors. The three-factor structure was similar to a previous study, with the first two factors being reversed. THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ADOLESCENT'S PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL BALANCE AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

The study summarises scientific and theoretical information that provides the basis for the use of telerehabilitation methods in the promotion of the development of physical, emotional and social balance for 12 – 13 year old adolescents in the context of inclusive education. The study describes the efficiency of modern technologies for the improvement of the physical and mental health of adolescent learners, as well as suggests services of social rehabilitation which could be provided from the distance. The target audiences of the study are teachers with different professional competence, researchers and the education policy makers.

Key challenges for Latvian teachers in mainstream schools: a basis for preparing teachers for inclusion

This paper analyses current research in Latvia to identify key issues related to inclusive education, special education and social pedagogy. A review of Latvian literature since 2004 was undertaken to determine what is known about special and inclusive education, how it is reflected in various research papers and how it related to the current situation in schools. Key findings suggest that teachers need to be better informed about the potential of inclusion. They need to be prepared to teach children with diverse educational needs in a changing educational landscape. Teacher education for inclusion is identified as a 21st-century priority in Latvia.
