Cytotoxic effect of silorane and methacrylate based composites on the human dental pulp stem cells and fibroblasts

2014

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the cytotoxic effect of a methacrylate-based and a silorane- based composite on the human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) versus human dental pulp fibroblasts (DPFs). Study Design: Samples of the Filtek Z250 and P90 were polymerized and immersed in the culture medium to obtain extracts after incubation for one, seven and 14 days. Magnetic cell sorting based on the CD146 expression was performed to purify DPSCs and DPFs. After incubation of both cells with the extracts, cytotoxicity was de - termined using the MTT test. Results: For the extracts of first and seventh day, both composites showed significantly lower cytotoxicity on DPSCs than DPFs…

Sealing effectiveness of fissure sealant bonded with universal adhesive systems on saliva-contaminated and noncontaminated enamel.

2017

Background The effectiveness of sealants is dependent upon their adhesion to enamel surface. The aim of the study was to evaluate the sealing ability of a pit and fissure sealant used with a universal adhesive (etch-and-rinse vs. self-etch modes) when the site is contaminated with saliva. Adhesive properties were evaluated as microleakage and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) characteristics. Material and methods A total of 72 mandibular third molars were randomly divided into 6 groups (n=12). Occlusal pits and fissures were sealed with an unfilled resin fissure sealant (FS) material with or without saliva contamination. The groups included: 1) phosphoric acid etching + FS (control), 2) p…

The effect of silver nanoparticles, zinc oxide nanoparticles, and titanium dioxide nanoparticles on the push-out bond strength of fiber posts

2019

Background This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of intraradicular dentin pretreatment with silver nanoparticles (SNPs), zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZNPs), and titanium oxide nanoparticles (TNPs) on the push-out bond strength (PBS) of fiber posts to root dentin using two types of resin cements. Material and methods Eighty single-rooted human premolar roots were randomly divided into eight groups after endodontic treatment and post space preparation, according to the type of intraradicular dentin pretreatment with different nanoparticle solutions (n=20). The groups included no pretreatment (control) and pretreatments with SNPs, ZNPs, and TNPs. Each group was divided into 2 subgro…

Effect of antibacterial/adhesive approaches on bonding durability of fiber posts cemented with self-etch resin cement

2017

Background Longevity of post-retained restoration is highly depended on bonding stability of fiber post (FP) to root dentin. This study evaluated the effect of different antibacterial/adhesive approaches on bonding durability of FPs luted into root canal with a self-etch cement. Material and methods Seventy-two human maxillary central incisor roots were divided into six groups after endodontic treatment, based on the antibacterial/adhesive treatments as follows: 1)ED primer II (ED, control); 2) Clearfil Protect Bond (PB); 3) 2% chlorhexidine (CH) pretreatment + ED primer II (CH+ED); 4) CH-incorporated into ED primer II (CH in ED); 5) CH pretreatment + Clearfil SE Bond (CH+SE); and 6)CH-inco…

Shear bond strength of metal brackets to ceramic surfaces using a universal bonding resin.

2017

BACKGROUND: Assure Plus is a recently introduced universal adhesive with the ability to bond to various restorations. This study compared the shear bond strength of brackets bonded to two types of ceramics using conventional bonding agent and Assure Plus. Surface damage caused by debonding was also evaluated. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this in vitro study, 40 feldspathic and lithium disilicate ceramic discs were sandblasted, etched with 9.6% hydrofluoric acid and divided into two groups. In group 1, silane was applied and air-dried followed by application of Transbond XT primer, which was light-cured. In group 2, Assure Plus was applied and air-dried. In both groups, maxillary central incisor…

Bond strength and adhesive interfacial micromorphology of self-adhesive resin cements : effect of reduced times of pre-etching

2019

Background Although acid-etching could increase enamel bond strength of self-adhesive (SA) cements, it may lead to negative effect on dentin. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of shortening of phosphoric acid pre-etching duration on enamel/ dentin shear bond strength (SBS) and interfacial microstructure of Panavia SA Luting Plus (PASA) and Bifix SE (BXSE). Material and Methods For both enamel and dentin, effect of pre-etching time was significant (p<0.001); however, effect of cement brand and the interaction of two factors was significant only for dentin (p≤0.008). Three pre-etching times increased SBS of both cements to enamel and BXSE to dentin. In case of dentin SBS of PASA,…

Effect of proanthocyanidin mediated immediate and delayed dentin sealing on the strength of premolars restored with composite resin inlay.

2019

Background Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) with proanthocyanidin (PA) could be used before cementation with a self-adhesive (SA) cement. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of PA treatment on acid-etched dentin before adhesive application, in IDS and delayed dentin sealing (DDS), on the strengthening property of SA-cemented composite resin inlay in premolars. Material and Methods Eighty-four maxillary premolars were divided into 7 groups (n=12): 1) (Intact) Sound teeth served as controls; groups 2-7) After cavity preparation and fabrication of composite resin inlay, temporary inlays were made and cemented. After one week, the inlays were removed and composite inlays were luted wit…

Mechanical and dentin bond strength properties of the nanosilver enriched glass ionomer cement

2019

Background The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties and dentin microshear bond strength of a conventional glass ionomer cement (GIC) compared to GIC supplemented with silver nanoparticles (SNPs) at 0.1% and 0.2% (w/w). Material and Methods SNPs were incorporated into a conventional GIC at 0.1% and 0.2% (w/w). The unmodified GIC was used as the control group. Compressive strength, flexural strength, and micro-shear bond strength (µSBS) to dentin were evaluated using a universal testing machine. Surface microhardness was determined using a Vickers microhardness tester. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test. Results GICs co…

Effect of laser heat treatment on Pull-out bond strength of fiber posts treated with different silanes

2018

This study evaluated the effect of three different silanes and post-silanization treatments on the retentive strength of fiber posts luted with an etch-and-rinse resin cement. One hundred intact maxillary central incisors were randomly divided into 10 groups after endodontic treatment and post space preparation (n=10). The fiber posts were etched using 24% hydrogen peroxide. Posts of the control group did not receive silane. In nine experimental groups, each of the three silanes used, Scotchbond Universal adhesive, Bis-Silane and Porcelain Primer, was subjected to three treatments: air-drying at 25°C, warm air-drying and CO2 laser heat treatment. After cementation of the treated posts using…
