Saturated fat intake and alcohol consumption modulate the association between the APOE polymorphism and risk of future coronary heart disease: a nest…

2011

The association is still not clear between the common APOE polymorphism and coronary heart disease (CHD) risk, nor its modulation by diet. Thus, our aim was to study the association between the APOE genotypes and incident CHD and how dietary fat and alcohol consumption modify these effects. We performed a nested case-control study in the Spanish European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort. Healthy men and women (41,440, 30-69 years) were followed up over a 10-year period, with the incident CHD cases being identified. We analyzed 534 incident CHD cases and 1123 controls. APOE, dietary intake and plasma lipids were determined at baseline. The APOE polymorphism was sign…

T215. CLINICAL PREDICTORS OF HOSPITALIZTIONS IN FIRST EPISODE PSYCHOTIC PATIENTS: A NATURALISTIC FOLLOW UP STUDY

2018

Abstract Background Some naturalistic longitudinal studies of first psychotic episodes of the last 50 years have suggested associations between psychopathology and the remission of symptoms and the clinical course of disease.1 A recent study in a large sample of patients with schizophrenia has obtained significant results using the number of hospitalizations as outcome variable.2 The main objective of this study is to know if clinical and sociodemographic variables predict the number of hospitalizations after the first psychotic episode Methods Naturalistic, longitudinal follow-up study in a sample of 212 patients of first-episode psychosis attending public mental health service in Area 5 o…

Temperature changes in 2% chlorhexidine gluconate using two activation methods with different intensity levels

2018

Background Chlorhexidine is an irrigant solution widely used in root canal treatment because of its good antimicrobial properties. However, its mixture with sodium hypochlorite results in the appearance of substance called p-chloroaniline, a cytotoxic substance. This is also found when chlorhexidine is heated. The use of passive ultrasonic irrigation is related to an irrigant thermal increase, which can cause the appearance of p-chloroaniline. Thus, the objective is to establish the influence of ultrasonic and sonic activation, with the use of different intensities, upon the temperature of chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX). Material and methods The following groups were established: control (wi…

T108. ANALYTICAL AND PREDICTIVE VALIDITY OF HALLUCINATIONS IN FIRST PSYCHOTIC EPISODES

2018

Abstract Background Some studies of first psychotic episodes have suggested the association between childhood trauma, such as sexual abuse, and the risk of hallucinations.1 Furthermore, other studies indicated that environment can alter the phenomenological presentation of first psychotic episodes.2 However, there are no studies about the association between hallucinations in first psychotic episodes and the prognosis of the disease. This is the main objective of this study. We also compared the phenomenological differences between hallucinations in first episode psychosis and persistent hallucinations in patients with chronic psychosis. Methods Naturalistic, longitudinal follow-up study in…

Food policies to prevent obesity and the main non-transmissible diseases in Spain: where there's a will there's a way

2019

Common cholesteryl ester transfer protein gene variation related to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol is not associated with decreased coronary he…

2009

Despite the consistent association between cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) gene variation and plasma HDL-C, huge controversy still rages on its association with coronary heart disease (CHD). We investigated the association between the CETP-TaqIB polymorphism, HDL-C and incident CHD in a Mediterranean population.A nested case-control study among participants of the Spanish EPIC cohort was performed. 41,440 healthy individuals (30-69 years) were followed up over a 10-year period, incident CHD cases being identified. We analyzed 557 confirmed CHD cases and 1180 healthy controls.Despite B2B2 subjects having the highest HDL-C concentrations and B1B1, the lowest (P0.001), no protective …
