First record of conulariids from the Tērvete Formation, Upper Devonian of Latvia

Phosphatized remains belonging to conulariids have been found in the Middle Famennian (Upper Devonian) deposits of the TÄrvete Formation of Latvia for the first time. The ornamentation pattern and characteristics of the exoskeleton indicate that the conulariids, represented by two incomplete and flattened specimens, belong to a single species within the genus Paraconularia. Paraconularia sp. from the TÄrvete Formation differs from Conularia latviensis Delle from the JoniÅ¡kis Formation in size and details of the morphology of the periderm; however, most probably, the species C. latviensis also belongs to the genus Paraconularia. Sedimentology and vertebrate fossils of the Frasnian Ogre Formation, Gurova outcrops, eastern Latvia

Combined sedimentological and palaeontological study of the siliciclastic sequence of the Ogre Formation in the easternmost area of its distribution in Latvia was aimed at the facies analysis of the deposits and at detailed observation of the taxonomical and taphonomical peculiarities of the fossil vertebrate assemblage. Two facies associations, tidally-influenced fluvial channels and lateral tidal bars, have been identified in exposures along the Gurova River. Revision of asterolepidoid antiarch remains from the Ogre Formation (Upper Devonian) of Latvia

The Frasnian (Upper Devonian) antiarch Walterilepis speciosa was first described in 1933 (as Taeniolepis) on the basis of a single specimen. The newly collected material has allowed the head to be described in a more detail, especially the nuchal and paranuchal plates. Other newly described elements include bones of the pectoral appendages and trunk armour, demonstrating a rather high and short trunk armour. The shape and proportions of the head and trunk armour suggest the attribution of Walterilepis to the family Pterichthyodidae; it is most probably closely related to Lepadolepis from the Late Frasnian of Germany.
