The offshoring of more advanced activities is increasing and a debate about the limits of offshoring has emerged. Companies are fine-slicing their value chains, and moving beyond the offshoring of peripheral and non-core activities to the offshoring of advanced and essential activities that are closer to their core (e.g. research, design and product development). La implementacion de distintas modalidades de offshoring viene siendo una practica habitual en las empresas multinacionales europeas, sin embargo, poco se conoce sobre los efectos que el uso de estas estrategias ejerce en los resultados, uno de los aspectos de mayor interes para las empresas. En este sentido, a partir de una muestra de 156 empresas multinacionales europeas del sector manufacturero, se analizan las diferencias derivadas de la eleccion del modo de offshoring en la productividad y la rentabilidad de las empresas.
