Synthesis, crystal structure and properties of two acetazolamide (5-acetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide) complexes: bis(5-acetamidato- 1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide-O)bis( 1,2-ethanediamine)copper(II) and bis(5-acetamidato-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide-N)bis(1,3- propanediamine)copper(II); an unusually weak ambidentate anionic ligand
Abstract The diverse coordination chemistry exhibited by acetazolamide (H2acm), a potent inhibitor of the carbonic anhydrase metalloenzyme, is highlighted in two new copper(II) complexes of this ligand: [Cu(Hacm)2(en)2] (I) and [Cu(Hacm)2(tn)2] (II). The synthesis, crystal structure and spectroscopic properties of both compounds are reported in this paper. The structures of both compounds consist of discrete units of [Cu(Hacm)2(en)2] (I) and [Cu(Hacm)2(tn)2] (II), respectively, interacting through van der Waals contacts and hydrogen bonds only. Hacm, however, binds differently in each compound. In both cases, the Cu(II) ions, lying on the symmetry centers, show an elongated octahedral geome…
Synthesis and characterization of mononuclear complexes containing 3-acetylamino-1,2,4-triazole (aat). X-ray structure of [Co(aat)2(H2O)2]Br2
Abstract The spectroscopic characteristics of the isostructural compounds [M(aat) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]X 2 (aat = 3-acetylamino-1,2,4-triazole; M = Co, Cu, X = Br, CI; M = Ni, X = Cl) are described. The structure of [Co(aat) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]Br 2 has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. Crystals are monoclinic, space group P 2 1 / a with a = 9.686(3), b = 14.433(4), c = 6.169(2) A, β = 92.84(2)° and Z = 2. The structure was refined to final R and R ′ values of 0.033 and 0.039 for 1066 observed reflections. In the mononuclear cationic complex, having an imposed crystallographic C i symmetry, the cobalt atom is surrounded in a slightly distorted octahedral arrangement by two axial water molecule…
Spin crossover in hexakis(1-(2-chloroethyl)-tetrazole)iron(II) complexes; synthesis and magnetic properties
Abstract The spin-crossover complexes [Fe(teec)6](X)2 (with teec=1-(2-chloroethyl)-tetrazole and X=BF4, ClO4, PF6) possess two iron(II) sites each having a different spin-crossover behaviour. The magnetic behaviour of the complexes obtained by slow crystallisation differs strongly from those obtained by precipitation. This difference results in either a spin crossover of 50% (X=ClO4, crystalline), two gradual steps (X=BF4, PF6), or two steps, of which one is gradual and the other having a thermal hysteresis (X=ClO4 precipitated). Both 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements have been recorded as a function of T. The crystal structure of [Fe(teec)6](BF4)2 has bee…
A new 3-D polymeric spin transition compound: [tris(1,4-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)butane-N1,N 1′)iron(II)] bis(perchlorate)
A series of novel polymeric compounds of formula [M(btzb)3][ClO4]2 (Mll = Fe, Ni or Cu) with btzb = 1,4-bis-(tetrazol-1-yl)butane have been prepared and their physical properties investigated. The btzb ligand has been prepared and its crystal structure determined, together with a tentative crystal structure of the 3-D compound [Fe(btzb)3][ClO4]2. The model of the latter shows two symmetry-related, interpenetrating Fe-btzb networks in which the iron(II) ions approach each other as close as 8.3 and 9.1 A. This supramolecular catenane undergoes a sharp thermal spin transition around 160 K with hysteresis (20 K) along with a pronounced thermochromic effect. The spin crossover behaviour has been…
Dimetallic complexes derived from a novel dinucleating chelating symmetric triazole ligand; crystal structure, magnetic properties and ESR study of bis[μ-3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazolato-O ′,N 1,N 2,O ″]bis[(nitrato)(aqua)copper(II)] ‡
Reaction of 3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazole (Hdaat) with copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) salts yields dinuclear co-ordination compounds, which were spectroscopically characterized. The crystal and molecular structure of one of the compounds, bis[µ-3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazolato-O′,N 1,N 2,O″]bis[(nitrato)(aqua)copper(II)] 1, was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 consists of dinuclear units with an inversion center at the midpoint of the Cu–Cu vector. The most remarkable feature of this structure is that the daat ligand forms a six-membered chelate ring [Cu–N3–C3–N1–C2–O1; Cua–N4–C4–N5–C5–O2], in contrast with the five-membered chelate rings always found in…

X-ray crystallographic parameters are as follows: [Fe(Hpt)3](BF4)2·nH2O (n ≈ 2) at 250 K: orthorhombic space group Pbam, a = 15.8068(18) A, b = 17.2800(14) A, c = 21.215(2) A, V = 5794.7(10) A3, and Z = 8. [Fe(Hpt)3](BF4)2·nH2O (n ≈ 2) at 95 K: orthorhombic space group Pbam, a = 15.7080(12) A, b = 17.1023(16) A, c = 21.006(2) A, V = 5643.1(9) A3, and Z = 8. The FeII ions are (at both temper…
Synthesis, Structure and Properties of a Mixed Mononuclear/Dinuclear Iron(II) Spin-Crossover Compound with the Ligand 4-(p-Tolyl)-1,2,4-triazole
A new iron(II) compound with the formula [Fe2(L)5(NCS)4]2[Fe(L)2(NCS)2(H2O)2] (I) [where L = 4-(p-tolyl)-1,2,4-triazole] has been synthesized and subjected to X-ray structure determination. Compound I crystallizes in the triclinic space group P–1 (no. 2) with a = 14.5785(11), b = 16.1253(11), c = 16.1963(8) A, α = 80.930(5), β = 85.796(5), γ = 78.132(6)°, V = 3676.2(4) A3. The structure refinement converged to wR2 = 0.172, RF = 0.084. The structure was found to consist of two types of iron-containing structural units, a mononuclear unit and a dinuclear one. The mononuclear unit has a crystallographic inversion centre, and is coordinated by two NCS anions, two triazole N1 nitrogen atoms, and…

The reaction of Haat [Haat = (3-acetylamino-1,2,4-triazole)] with aquated Cu(CF3SO3)2, Cu(NO3)2, and Cu(ClO4)2, respectively, in water results in the trinuclear complexes [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(CF3SO3)(H2O)2](CF3SO3) (1), [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(NO3)(H2O)2](NO3).(H2O)2 (2), and [Cu3(OH)(aat)3(ClO4)(H2O)2](ClO4) (3). The synthesis, X-ray structure, and magnetic and spectroscopic properties of the three title complexes are described. The cation of the three complexes is trinuclear with a Cu3OH skeleton which has the N-N diazine grouping of a triazole ring as bridge between each pair of copper atoms. The Cu3OH units have an average Cu-O distance of 1.991(6) (1), 2.000(6) (2), and 2.007(6) (3) A, an average Cu-…
