The ependyma on the pineal of the guinea pig (Cavia cobaya)
The proximal part of the epiphysis cerebri of the guinea pig is in close contact with the cerebrosopinal fluid of the third ventricle. A direct contact is not present as the pineal tissue is covered by a continuous ependymal layer. Two types of ependymal cells with different surface protrusions are discussed as being involved in possible interactions between the neuroendocrine tissue of the pineal organ and the cerebrospinal fluid. In addition, two different types of supraependymal structures are found on the ependymal surface of the habenulae and the wall of the third ventricle. Die jugendf�rbung von Osteoglossum ferreirai Kanazawa (teleostei, osteoglossidae)
Die Jugendfarbung des Maulbruters Osteoglassum ferreirai (Osteoglossidae) wird erstmals vorgestellt. Die verschiedenen Stadien der Entwicklung zeigen einen zunachst farblosen, mit sehr grosem Dottersack ausgestatteten Jungfisch, dann ein charakteristisch schwarz-weis gefarbtes Jugendstadium bis hin zum adulten Fisch unscheinbarer Farbung. An Hand einer Bildserie kann die Umfarbung zum adulten Fisch Bowie die Resorption des Dottersackes verfolgt werden. Die biologische Bedeutung der Jugendfarbung von Osteoglossum ferreirai wird diskutiert in Bezug zur Maulbrutpflege and zum Schwarmverhalten der Jungfische untereinander.
