BACKGROUND: Case management by health care assistants in small primary care practices provides unclear benefit for improving depression symptoms. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether case management provided by health care assistants in small primary care practices is more effective than usual care in improving depression symptoms and process of care for patients with major depression. Suicidal ideation is common in patients suffering from depression, but it often remains undetected. General practitioners play an important role in the management of depression and suicidality. The aim of this study was to identify predictors for suicidal ideation in patients with major depression in primary health care.We conducted a cross-sectional study.
