Rewetting of a hot vertical surface by liquid sprays

Hot surfaces rewetting interests several technological fields. A very important application is in nuclear reactors technology, where it governs the cooling of overheated fuel elements during hypothesized loss of coolant accidents (LOCAs). This phenomenon is also important in many normal processes and accidental situations taking place in conventional processes. For example when the integrity of metallic containers, filled by toxic or dangerous substances, is endangered by a hypothetical fire. The rewetting consists in the re-establishment of coolant in contact with metallic surfaces become dried due to high temperature. To this end cold liquid is injected on these surfaces via sprays or other …

Retroperitoneal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Involving the Pelvic Side Wall Arising from Endometriosis: A Case Report

Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) arising from endometriosis is very rare. Moreover, endometriosis located on the pelvic side wall is uncommon, while its cancerization is quite unusual. We herein report the first case of retroperitoneal SCC arising from endometriosis. Case Presentation: A case of a 52-year-old woman with retroperitoneal pararectal right mass is presented. The pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed a retroperitoneal tumor extended to the right pelvic side wall. The neuropelveological examination completed the preoperative assessment, showing a right-sided sciatica and overactive bladder s…

A Photographic study of subcooled flow boiling burnout at high heat flux and velocity

Abstract The present paper reports the results of a visualization study of the burnout in subcooled flow boiling of water, with square cross section annular geometry (formed by a central heater rod contained in a duct characterized by a square cross section). The coolant velocity is in the range 3–10 m/s. High speed movies of flow pattern in subcooled flow boiling of water from the onset of nucleate boiling up to physical burnout of the heater are recorded. From video images (single frames taken with a stroboscope light and an exposure time of 1 μs), the following general behaviour of vapour bubbles was observed: when the rate of bubble generation is increasing, with bubbles growing in the …

ASO Author Reflections: How Long will We Perform Lymphadenectomy in Endometrial Cancer Patients?

Abstract Objectives To compare survival and progression outcomes between 2 nodal assessment approaches in patients with nonbulky stage IIIC endometrial cancer (EC). Methods Patients with stage IIIC EC treated at 2 institutions were retrospectively identified. At 1 institution, a historical series (2004–2008) was treated with systematic pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy (LND cohort). At the other institution, more contemporary patients (2006–2013) were treated using a sentinel lymph node algorithm (SLN cohort). Outcomes (hazard ratios [HRs]) within the first 5 years after surgery were compared between cohorts using Cox models adjusted for type of adjuvant therapy. Results The study incl…
