The authors enter three economic activity indices, which are calculated from the data in the virtual space on basis of Mobile Operator Call Description Records, Internet Log Files and News Portal audience textual comments and remarks analysis. The article provides the computing facility and the software specification for the Big Data computational platform. Indicates the need to comply this platform with strategy of data privacy requirements solutions and the visualization of results with data geographical mapping.
Unified computing facility design based on open source software

The article describes e-infrastructure development in Latvia and migration to national Cloud as regional partner facility (RPF) in European Union (EU). In Latvia many public and private Computing Clouds is in operation and problem is how to integrate these resources as one RPF and how to design one unified computing facility that is used for many different applications. The authors offer their solution at Cloud software as a Service and Hardware as a Service level which is based on usage of open source packaged bundles.

There are two ICT museums in Latvia: the Riga Technical University Telecommunications Museum and the Computing Museum of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Latvia. Historical studies can be carried out at museums, institutes and universities, and professional communities. The type of history study funding can also vary. The article describes the possibilities for financing of computer museums. A comparison of museum metrics in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia is subject to discussion. ZERO: An Efficient Ethernet-Over-IP Tunneling Protocol

An Ethernet over IPv4 tunneling protocol is proposed, which categorizes all Ethernet frames to be tunneled into NICE and UGLY frames. The UGLY frames are tunneled by traditional methods, such as UDP or GRE encapsulation, resulting in substantial overhead due to additional headers and fragmentation usually required to transport long Ethernet frames over IP network typically limited to MTU=1,500 bytes. Meanwhile the NICE Ethernet frames are tunneled without any overhead as plain IPv4 packets due to non-traditional reuse of “fragment offset” or “identification” field in the IP header. Computing and communication convergence reflection to legislation system and higher education programs

Concept of computing and communication convergence has many years of history — as strategic concept it started about 1977 and yet have many definitions. The idea behind convergence concept mostly related to getting closer computing and telecommunication common technologies, services and service provider's business models. In this academic position paper some less significant obstacles of influence-reflection of convergence to legislation system, higher education programs and industry labor market are discussed.

The article describes the development of information technology in Latvia, in IMCS, to the middle of the 1990s. The history of IMCS represents the usage of computers in typical computing centers in the former Soviet Union and the transformation from computing center to research institution. It also represents Latvian collaboration with the Nordic countries that provided political, scientific, and technological support. Historical documents, computer parts, and photos are collected in the Computer Museum of IMCS.
