Diagnosis and surgical management of colovesical fistulas due to sigmoid diverticulitis.
Diverticular disease of the colon is the most frequent cause of colovesical fistulas. In this study we evaluated the accuracy of different diagnostic procedures for the detection of colovesical fistula and the clinical outcome in a series of 49 patients who underwent surgery for colovesical fistula due to sigmoid diverticulitis.Between 1982 and 2007, 42 men and 7 women underwent surgery for colovesical fistula due to sigmoid diverticulitis. Bilateral synchronous sporadic renal cell carcinoma: surgical management, oncological and functional outcomes
OBJECTIVE To analyse the functional and oncological outcomes of surgical treatment of bilateral synchronous sporadic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 1969 and 2006, 57 patients with bilateral synchronous sporadic RCC were identified from our kidney database. The mean (range) follow-up was 4.8 (0.1–23.8) years; 28 patients (49%) had radical nephrectomy (RN) and contralateral nephron-sparing surgery (NSS), and 22 (39%) had bilateral NSS.
