Mechanical properties and XRD of Nafion modified by 2-hydroxyethylammonium ionic liquids

In this work, the Nafion 112 membrane impregnated with 2-hydroxyethylammonium carboxylate ionic liquids have been investigated. The used ionic liquids were 2-hydroxyethylammonium formate [HEA]F, acetate [HEA]A and lactate [HEA]L. Prepared composite membranes Nafion/ionic liquid are characterized by mechanical testing, such as tensile test and creep test. It is found that ionic liquids decrease elastic modulus and creep compliance, but do not have significant effect on the tensile strength. Mycotoxins in herbal teas marketed in Latvia and dietary exposure assessment

The occurrence of 12 mycotoxins has been analysed by liquid chromatography - time of flight mass spectrometry in the batch of 60 herbal teas purchased from drugstores in Latvia. Among the dry tea samples, 90% were positive for one to eight mycotoxins. Enniatin B and deoxynivalenol (DON) were the most frequently detected mycotoxins in 55% and 45% of the samples, respectively. DON reached the highest level, from 129 µg kg-1 in herbal blend to 5,463 µg kg-1 in wormwood tea. Ochratoxin A (OTA) and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) were found in 10% and 20% of the samples at the concentrations ranged between 2.99-30.3 µg kg-1 and 3.40-23.7 µg kg-1. Development and Characterization of Novel Conductive Nanofiller Based on Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Grafted with Poly(3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene)

In the present study, an approach for the graft polymerization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) has been evaluated. The surface of the MWCNTs was activated with thiophene groups through the amide linker followed by oxidative polymerization of EDOT monomer resulted in the development of PEDOT-g-MWCNTs. The methods of thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray fluorescence, and Raman spectroscopy were used for characterization of functionalization efficiency. In this paper, results of feasibility study on microplastics (MPs) assessment in leachates from the Latvian solid municipal landfill Getliņi are discussed. The application of leachates for the treatment of cigarette butts (CGB) was evaluated. ABSTRACTPolyethylene-octene copolymer (E38) is melt compounded with carboxylated carbon nanotubes (CNT-COOH) in the presence of maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (PEgMA). The effects of CNT-COOH in the amount of 1–10 wt. % on the mechanical properties of E38 based composite are investigated. It is revealed that addition of CNT-COOH considerably increases the stiffness and mechanical strength of the E38 based composites. Mycotoxins in cereals and pulses harvested in Latvia by nanoLC-Orbitrap MS

Twenty-seven mycotoxins in unprocessed cereals (n = 110) and pulses (n = 23) harvested in Latvia were analysed by nanoflow liquid chromatography combined with Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry. One or more mycotoxins were found in 99% of the cereals and 78% of the pulses. Deoxynivalenol, zearalenone and T-2 and HT-2 toxins were prevalent in 9 to 86% of the cereals, mostly below their maximum levels as set by the European regulations. Non-regulated type A and B trichothecenes were prevalent in 5 to 87% of the cereals, at concentrations of 0.27–83 µg kg−1 and 1.7–4,781 µg kg−1, respectively. In this paper, a study of fungal and multi-mycotoxin contamination in 140 Camellia sinensis and 26 herbal teas marketed in Latvia is discussed. Mechanical, structural and magnetic properties of polypropylene/iron ferrite magnetic nanocomposites

In this research, composites of polypropylene (PP) and a relatively small concentrations of iron ferrite (Fe3O4) nanopowder equal to 2, 5 and 10 wt.% have been made. An methacrylate monomer 2,2'-bis-(4-(2-methylprop-2-enoyloxy)phenyl)- propane (BAD) was added at a small amount (3 wt.%) to part of the composites during the thermoplastic mixing. The BAD has been used as a compatibilizing agent on the phase interaction between the filler and the matrix of polypropylene. It has been found that composites have adjustable mechanical, structural and magnetic properties dependent on the content of magnetic filler. Promocijas darbā pētītas poliolefīnu – multifāzu kompozīcijas ar elastomēriem un šķērssaistīšanās promotoriem. Izvērtēta radiācijķīmiskās modificēšanas un lielas indukcijas magnētiskā lauka (B = 1,0-1,7 T) ietekme uz pētīto kompozītsistēmu stiprības-deformācijas, struktūras īpašībām, kā arī novērtēta magnētiskā lauka un jonizējošā starojuma mijiedarbības ietekme uz poliolefīnu makromolekulu šķērssaistīšanās efektivitāti. Iegūtas jaunas teorētiskas un praktiskas atziņas par radiācijķīmiski modificētu poliolefīnu multifāzu kompozīciju ekspluatācijas īpašībām, kas ļāva radīt jaunus uz polipropilēna bāzētus termonosēdmateriālus.

Mechanical Properties of Composite SPEEK Polymer Membranes Modified with Ionic Liquids

In this work, the mechanical properties of sulphonated polyetheretherketone (SPEEK) membranes impregnated with 3 different ionic liquids (1-butyl-2,3-dimethyl- imidazolium dimethylphosphate ([BMMIM][Me2PO4])), 1,2,3-trimethylimidazolium dimethylphosphate ([MMMIM][Me2PO4])), 1,3-dimethylimidazolium dimethylphosphate ([MMIM][Me2PO4])) have been investigated. Prepared SPEEK/ionic liquid composite membranes are characterized by mechanical testing both in room and elevated temperatures. It was found that the stiffness and tensile strength of composites decreased by increasing the content of ionic liquid and the length of alkyl radical in ionic liquid as well as by increasing the temperature.
