Implementation of the Neuberger-Dirac operator on GPUs

Recent developments have shown that a lot can be gained for QCD simulations from GPU hardware. This can be exploited especially in the case of Ginsparg-Wilson fermions when the com putational costs are particularly high. In this work, we use the Neuberger-Dirac operator as our realisation of Ginsparg-Wilson fermions, which greatly facilitate lattice investigations of decays like $K \to \pi\pi$. We report on the ongoing study of our GPU implementation of the Neuberger-Dirac operator including the exact treatment of the low lying eigenmodes of the Wilson-Dirac operator. Our benchmarks show that we achieve speed-up factors of around 23 and 16 in single and double precision, respectively.

Artefacts in CBCT: a review

Artefacts are common in today's cone beam CT (CBCT). They are induced by discrepancies between the mathematical modelling and the actual physical imaging process. Since artefacts may interfere with the diagnostic process performed on CBCT data sets, every user should be aware of their presence. This article aims to discuss the most prominent artefacts identified in the scientific literature and review the existing knowledge on these artefacts. We also briefly review the basic three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction concept applied by today's CBCT scanners, as all artefacts are more or less directly related to it.

Alignment of Noisy and Uniformly Scaled Time Series

The alignment of noisy and uniformly scaled time series is an important but difficult task. Given two time series, one of which is a uniformly stretched subsequence of the other, we want to determine the stretching factor and the offset of the second time series within the first one. We adapted and enhanced different methods to address this problem: classical FFT-based approaches to determine the offset combined with a naive search for the stretching factor or its direct computation in the frequency domain, bounded dynamic time warping and a new approach called shotgun analysis, which is inspired by sequencing and reassembling of genomes in bioinformatics. We thoroughly examined the strengt…
