Protective Role for LPA3 in Cardiac Hypertrophy Induced by Myocardial Infarction but Not by Isoproterenol

Background: We previously reported that lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) promoted cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in vitro via one of its G protein-coupled receptor subtypes, LPA3. In this study, we examined the role of LPA3 in cardiac hypertrophy induced by isoproterenol (ISO) and myocardial infarction. Methods: In vitro, neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) were subjected to LPA3 knocked-down, or pretreated with a β-adrenergic receptor (β-AR) antagonist (propranolol) before LPA/ISO treatment. Cardiomyocyte size and hypertrophic gene (ANP, BNP) mRNA levels were determined. In vivo, LPA3-/- and wild-type mice were implanted subcutaneously with an osmotic mini-pump containing ISO or vehicle for 2 weeks;…

The global burden of cancer attributable to risk factors, 2010–19 : A systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Background: Understanding the magnitude of cancer burden attributable to potentially modifiable risk factors is crucial for development of effective prevention and mitigation strategies. We analysed results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 to inform cancer control planning efforts globally. Methods: The GBD 2019 comparative risk assessment framework was used to estimate cancer burden attributable to behavioural, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risk factors. A total of 82 risk-outcome pairs were included on the basis of the World Cancer Research Fund criteria. Estimated cancer deaths and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in 20…

Health promoting benefits of PEF: bioprotective capacity against the oxidative stress and its impact on nutrient and bioactive compound bioaccessibility

Abstract Pulsed electric field (PEF) is a relative innovative technology of food treatment, which enables obtaining high-quality and safe food products. PEF treatment due to its affinity to cell electroporation has been used for the preservation of liquid foods. Nowadays, PEF can also be a useful tool for designing processes with a wide range of new applications such as production of healthy food products with enhanced beneficial properties for human health. An overview of the current literature shows the potential of PEF to enhance new functional properties of foods based on its ability to increase nutrients and bioactive compounds extractability. This process can lead to increased bioacce…

LPCC

Most high-performance computing (HPC) clusters use a global parallel file system to enable high data throughput. The parallel file system is typically centralized and its storage media are physically separated from the compute cluster. Compute nodes as clients of the parallel file system are often additionally equipped with SSDs. The node internal storage media are rarely well-integrated into the I/O and compute workflows. How to make full and flexible use of these storage media is therefore a valuable research question. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical Persistent Client Caching (LPCC) mechanism for the Lustre file system. LPCC provides two modes: RW-PCC builds a read-write cache on…
