Technology as 'Applied Science': a Serious Misconception that Reinforces Distorted and Impoverished Views of Science

The current consideration of technology as "applied science", this is to say, as something that comes "after" science, justifies the lack of attention paid to technology in science education. In our paper we question this simplistic view of the science-tecnology relationship, historically rooted in the unequal appreciation of intellectual and manual work, and we try to show how the absense of the technological dimension in science education contributes to a naive and distorted view of science which deeply affects the necessary scientific and technological literacy of all citizens.

Our aim with this paper is to question the typical distinction between «theory», «lab» and «paper and pencil problem-solving » activities. We intend to show that research done on these domains does not support their separation in the teaching/learning process. In fact, this separation does not take place in any real scientific activity.

Teaching of energy issues: A debate proposal for a global reorientatiom

The growing awareness of serious difficulties in the learning of energy issues has produced a great deal of research, most of which is focused on specific conceptual aspects. In our opinion, the difficulties pointed out in the literature are interrelated and connected to other aspects (conceptual as well as procedural and axiological), which are not sufficiently taken into account in previous research. This paper aims to carry out a global analysis in order to avoid the more limited approaches that deal only with individual aspects. From this global analysis we have outlined 24 propositions that are put forward for debate to lay the foundations for a profound reorientation of the teaching o…

In this paper we analyse some of the criticisms that are being made to the «constructivist paradigm» and their implications on the development of the didactic of the sciences as a theoretical body knowledge.
