New Strategy to Reduce the Global Burden of Stroke
2015
The socioeconomic and health effect of stroke and other noncommunicable disorders (NCDs) that share many of the same risk factors with stroke, such as heart attack, dementia, and diabetes mellitus, is huge and increasing.1–4 Collectively, NCDs account for 34.5 million deaths (66% of deaths from all causes)3 and 1344 million disability-adjusted life years lost worldwide in 2010.2 The burden of NCDs is likely to burgeon given the aging of the world’s population and the epidemiological transition currently observed in many low- to middle-income countries (LMICs).5,6 In addition, there is low awareness in the population about these NCDs and their risk factors,7–10 particularly in LMICs.11 These…
Space charge and induced dipole relaxation in solid electrolytes
1996
The space charge relaxation and induced dipole relaxation in solid electrolytes is discussed. The di-electric responses of these relaxations gives a satisfactory fit to the universal conductivity behaviours in the frequency range from DC to infrared.

Infrared spectroscopy on lead silicate glass
1993
The reflectance spectra of some lead silicate glasses of general formula (PbO)x(SiO2)y have been measured in the infrared frequency range from 50 to 4000 cm−1. The dispersion and absorption spectra in the range 50–2000 cm−1 have been calculated from the reflectance data using the Kramers-Kronig relations. The band at ∼ 135 cm−1 is assigned to the stretching vibration of lead-oxygen bonds. The shoulder band of the silicon-oxygen stretching mode at ∼900 cm−1 shows a weak coupling of those bonds to the Pb2+ modifier. The vibration strength of those bands shows that the number of the Pb2+ modifier increases first up approximately to 50 Mol% with the increase of PbO content and then decreases ra…
