PUBLIC SPACES: resources for the city or places of conflict?
Public spaces, whether they be indoors or out, are an important part of cities. They are the places of everyday life that have, over time, undergone a phase of decline. Percorsi virtuosi di uso del territorio. Il caso studio della città di Agrigento
The historical period we are living leads to a serious reflection on future programmatic lines of planning. The use of classical planning is insufficient with respect to the needs of citizens. The study objective is the knowledge of the ways in which ‘the universe of the house is structured’ , in particular in a selected neighbourhood located on the northern edge of Favara - a town in the Sicilian hinterland, few kilometres far from Agrigento - characterized by self-building. The hope is that the investigated built-up heritage, together with public open spaces, can be recovered and enhanced by the community and local governance through strategic urban redevelopment actions not to lose a significant part of the city’s identity and history.
