Maximally aligned states in the proton drip line nucleus 106Sb
High-spin states in Sb-106 have been investigated in the Fe-54(Ni-58, 1α 1p1n) reaction by in-beam γ-spectroscopic methods using the EUROBALL detector array equipped with charged particle and neutr ...
Sub-Barrier Coulomb Excitation ofSn110and Its Implications for theSn100Shell Closure
The first excited 2(+) state of the unstable isotope Sn-110 has been studied in safe Coulomb excitation at 2.82 MeV/u using the MINIBALL array at the REX-ISOLDE post accelerator at CERN. This is the first measurement of the reduced transition probability of this state using this method for a neutron deficient Sn isotope. The strength of the approach lies in the excellent peak-to-background ratio that is achieved. The extracted reduced transition probability, B(E2 : 0(+) -> 2(+)) 0.220 +/- 0.022e(2) b(2), strengthens the observation of the evolution of the B(E2) values of neutron deficient Sn isotopes that was observed recently in intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation of Sn-108. It implies …
Towards the solution of the $C_{P}/C_{A}$ anomaly in shell-model calculations of muon capture
Recently many authors have performed shell-model calculations of nuclear matrix elements determining the rates of the ordinary muon capture in light nuclei. These calculations have employed well-tested effective interactions in large scale shell-model studies. For one of the nuclei of interest, namely $^{28}$Si, there exists recent experimental data which can be used to deduce the value of the ratio $C_{P}/C_{A}$ by using the calculated matrix elements. Surprisingly enough, all the abovementioned shell-model results suggest a very small value ($\simeq 0$) for $C_{P}/C_{A}$, quite far from the PCAC prediction and recent data on muon capture in hydrogen. We show that this rather disturbing an…
Study of odd-mass N = 82 isotones with realistic effective interactions
The microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model, MQPM, is used to study the energy spectra of the odd $Z=53 - 63$, N=82 isotones. The results are compared with experimental data, with the extreme quasiparticle-phonon limit and with the results of an unrestricted $2s1d0g_{7/2}0h_{11/2}$ shell model (SM) calculation. The interaction used in these calculations is a realistic two-body G-matrix interaction derived from modern meson-exchange potential models for the nucleon-nucleon interaction. For the shell model all the two-body matrix elements are renormalized by the $\hat{Q}$-box method whereas for the MQPM the effective interaction is defined by the G-matrix.
Sn108studied with intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation
The unstable neutron-deficient Sn-108 isotope has been studied in inverse kinematics by intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation using the RISING/FRS experimental setup at GSI. This is the highest Z nucleus studied so far with this method. Its reduced transition probability B (E2;0(g.s.)(+)-> 2(1)(+)) has been measured for the first time. The extracted B(E2) value of 0.230(57)e(2) b(2) has been determined relative to the known value in the stable Sn-112 isotope. The result is discussed in the framework of recent large-scale shell model calculations performed with realistic effective interactions. The roles of particle-hole excitations of the Sn-100 core and of the Z=50 shell gap for the E2 po…
