A new 3D-method to assess the inter implant dimensions in patients ? A pilot study

2020

Complex implant treatments have steadily increased within implant prosthodontics. Based on the lower implant mobility, implant impressions need high accuracy in the model transfer to receive a high passive fit within the final prosthodontic restoration. To analyze the accurate 3-dimensional (3D) inter-implant-positions, a reference point is indispensable. However, there is no reference in the patients mouth, so the aim of the present study was to develop a new method based on a custom-made-measuring-aid (CMA) to assess the inter implant dimensions (InID) in patients. Initially an implant master model (IMM/patient equivalent) was digitized by computed tomography. A CMA was fixed on the impre…

Computer simulation of ferroelectric property changes in PLZT ceramics under neutron irradiation

2001

The response of ferroelectric materials to high energy irradiation is of great interest because of their possible application in radiation environments such as thermonuclear reactors. In the present work a physical model for the defect evolution in PLZT ceramics under neutron irradiation and annealing is proposed. The influence of the defect system on the ferroelectric properties of these materials has been investigated. Satisfactory agreement between the theoretical estimated oxygen defect concentration after irradiation and annealing and the experimentally determined polarization has been obtained.

The Fluorescence Detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

2010

The Pierre Auger Observatory is a hybrid detector for ultra-high energy cosmic rays. It combines a surface array to measure secondary particles at ground level together with a fluorescence detector to measure the development of air showers in the atmosphere above the array. The fluorescence detector comprises 24 large telescopes specialized for measuring the nitrogen fluorescence caused by charged particles of cosmic ray air showers. In this paper we describe the components of the fluorescence detector including its optical system, the design of the camera, the electronics, and the systems for relative and absolute calibration. We also discuss the operation and the monitoring of the detecto…

Update on the correlation of the highest energy cosmic rays with nearby extragalactic matter

2010

Data collected by the Pierre Auger Observatory through 31 August 2007 showed evidence for anisotropy in the arrival directions of cosmic rays above the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuz'min energy threshold, 6 x 10(19) eV. The anisotropy was measured by the fraction of arrival directions that are less than 3.1 degrees from the position of an active galactic nucleus within 75 Mpc (using the Veron-Cetty and Veron 12th catalog). An updated measurement of this fraction is reported here using the arrival directions of cosmic rays recorded above the same energy threshold through 31 December 2009. The number of arrival directions has increased from 27 to 69, allowing a more precise measurement. The correlating…

Concept of Biogenic Ferromanganese Crust Formation: Coccoliths as Bio-seeds in Crusts from Central Atlantic Ocean (Senghor Seamount/Cape Verde)

2011

At depths of 2,000 to 3,000 m, seamounts from the Cape Verde archipelago (Central Atlantic Ocean) are largely covered with ferromanganese crusts. Here we studied 60 to 150 mm thick crusts from the Senghor Seamount (depth: 2257.4 m). The crusts have a non lamellated texture and are covered with spherical nodules. The chemical composition shows a dominance of MnO2 (26.1%) and Fe2O3 (38.8%) with considerable amounts of Co (0.74%) and TiO2 (2.1%). Analysis by scanning electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) revealed a well defined compositional zonation of micro-layers; the distribution pattern of Mn does not match that of Fe. Analysis by high resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed…

Measurement ofb-jet shapes in inclusive jet production inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2008

We present a measurement of the shapes of b-jets using 300 pb(-1) of data obtained with the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II) in p(p)overbar collisions at center-of-mass energy root s=1.96 TeV. This measurement covers a wide transverse momentum range, from 52 to 300 GeV/c. Samples of heavy-flavor enhanced jets together with inclusive jets are used to extract the average shapes of b-jets. The b-jets are expected to be broader than inclusive jets. Moreover, b-jets containing a single b-quark are expected to be narrower than those containing a b(b)overbar pair from gluon splitting. The measured b-jet shapes are found to be significantly broader than expected from the PYTHIA and H…

MuPix10: First Results from the Final Design

2021

Many years of research and development of High Voltage Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (HVMAPS) have culminated in the final design for the Mu3e pixel sensor. MuPix10 is a fully monolithic sensor with an active pixel matrix size of $20\times20\,\mathrm{mm}^2$ produced in the $180\,\mathrm{nm}$ HV-CMOS process at TSI Semiconductors. The pixel size is $80\times80\,\mathrm{\mu m}^2$. Hits are read out using a column-drain architecture and sent over up to four serial links with up to $1.6\,\left.\mathrm{Gbit}\middle/\mathrm{s}\right.$ each. By means of DC/DC converters and exclusive usage of on-chip biasing, MuPix10 is fully operable with a minimal set of electrical connections. This is an inte…

Correlation of the highest-energy cosmic rays with the positions of nearby active galactic nuclei

2008

Data collected by the Pierre Auger Observatory provide evidence for anisotropy in the arrival directions of the cosmic rays with the ighest-energies, which are correlated with the positions of relatively nearby active galactic nuclei (AGN) [Pierre Auger Collaboration, Science 318 (2007) 938]. The correlation has maximum significance for cosmic rays with energy greater than ~6 x 1019 eV and AGN at a distance less than ~75 Mpc. We have confirmed the anisotropy at a confidence level of more than 99% through a test with parameters specified a priori, using an independent data set. The observed correlation is compatible with the hypothesis that cosmic rays with the highest-energies originate fro…
