O6-Alkylguanine DNA alkyltransferase activity in student embalmers

1997

O6-Alkylguanine-DNA alkyltransferase (AGT) activity was assessed in peripheral blood lymphocytes among 23 mortuary science students before and after 9 weeks in a laboratory course in techniques of embalming. Formaldehyde exposure was established by environmental monitoring. The average air concentration of formaldehyde during embalming was about 1.5 ppm. At the pre-exposure sampling, baseline DNA repair capacity tended to be reduced in subjects who reported a prior history of embalming (p = 0.08). From pre- to post-exposure, 17 subjects decreased in DNA repair capacity, while only 6 increased (p <0.05). Analysis of variance, including adjustment for age, sex, and smoking status, confirmed t…

Assay for O6-alkylguanine-DNA-alkyltransferase using oligonucleotides containing O6-methylguanine in a BamHI recognition site as substrate

1992

Abstract Double-stranded oligonucleotides, 40 bases in length containing an O 6 -methylguanine in a Bam HI restriction site, were developed as substrates for the determination of human O 6 -alkylguanine-DNA-alkyltransferase (AGT). The assay proved highly sensitive and quantitative. After incubation of the 5′-end-labeled oligonucleotides with cell homogenates of peripheral blood lymphocytes, the DNA was digested with Bam HI. Cleavage with this restriction enzyme did not occur in the O 6 -methylguanine-containing oligonucleotide unless the fragment was repaired. The cleaved oligonucleotide was separated from the intact parent oligonucleotide by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatogr…

A key pathogenic role for the STAT1/T-bet signaling pathway in T-cell-mediated liver inflammation.

2003

TH1 cytokines have been suggested to contribute to the pathogenesis of T-cell-mediated liver injury and inflammation. However, the molecular signaling pathways involved in such injury are still poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated the role of the STAT1/T-bet signaling pathway in a murine model of T-cell-mediated liver inflammation induced by the application of concanavalin A (Con A) using newly created STAT1 transgenic mice as well as STAT1- and T-bet-deficient mice. Liver injury induced by Con A was associated with an increase of both pSTAT1 and T-bet levels in the liver. Furthermore, functional studies suggested a pathogenic role for STAT1 in Con A-induced liver injury…

La Empresa Familiar Multigeneracional

2009

The general aim of this work, “From the Founder to Multigenerational Family Business: The Family’s Crucial Role as an Owner for Longevity”, is to contribute in discovering the reasons why family businesses manage to survive. The conceptual approach taken as the starting point for this work, the information examined and the research methodology pursued by the authors involve criteria that are clearly different from those followed by the works from other scholars on the same topic. The conceptual approach taken here springs from the conviction that the basic key to understanding the success of a multigenerational family business lies in the qualities of the people who form the ownership group…

Two-particle transverse momentum correlations in pp and p-Pb collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

2023

Two-particle transverse momentum differential correlators, recently measured in Pb--Pb collisions at energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), provide an additional tool to gain insights into particle production mechanisms and infer transport properties, such as the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density, of the medium created in Pb-Pb collisions. The longitudinal long-range correlations and the large azimuthal anisotropy measured at low transverse momenta in small collision systems, namely pp and p-Pb, at LHC energies resemble manifestations of collective behaviour. This suggests that locally equilibrated matter may be produced in these small collision systems, simil…
