In a controlled prospective randomized study, defibrillation by emergency medical technicians (EMTs) was compared with the current standard of care in Germany (basic life support by EMTs and defibrillation by emergency physicians only) in order to answer the following questions: 1. Aus der Zielsetzung des Notarzteinsatzes ergibt sich ein zu fordernder Standard fur die fachliche Qualitat des Notarztes. So sollte die Zusatzqualifikation Notfallmedizin baldmoglichst in der gesamten Bundesrepublik eingefuhrt werden, um den innerklinisch geltenden Facharztstandard auch auf die praklinische Situation zu ubertragen. Zentrale Notaufnahmen konnen als Verbindung zwischen praklinischer und innerklinischer Notfallmedizin den gestiegenen Anforderungen notfallmedizinischer Versorgung gerecht werden.
