The DNA repair protein O(6)-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) is a key player in tumor cell resistance. Promoter methylation, MGMT activity and immunohistochemistry are used for determining the MGMT status. However, it is unclear whether MGMT promoter methylation correlates with MGMT activity and whether MGMT promoter methylation of the pretreatment tumor predicts the MGMT status of recurrences. To address these questions, we determined MGMT activity promoter methylation and immunoreactivity in pretreatment and recurrent glioblastomas (GB, WHO Grade IV), and in astrocytomas (WHO Grade III). Probabilistic classification of intracranial gliomas in digital microscope images based on EGFR quantity

A glioma is a type of cancer occurring, in the majority of cases, in the brain. The World Health Organization (WHO) assigns a grade from I to IV to this tumor, with I being the least aggressive and IV being the most aggressive. In glioma cells of grade IV the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptors (EGFRs) are over expressed. In this paper we hypothesize that this overexpression occurs also for gliomas of grades I to III. E-cadherin is one of the critical molecules involved in the metastatic process in many types of cancer. Once combined, E-cadherin exceeds the amount of membranous E-cadherin on the cellular surface by activation of intracellular signaling cascades. Differential inhibition of renal cancer cell invasion mediated by fibronectin, collagen IV and laminin.

Invasion of tumor cells into the extracellular matrix is an essential step in the formation of metastases in renal cancer. Cell adhesion molecules such as beta(1)-integrins, which bind to the RGD sequence (arginine-glycine-asparagine) and CD44 are involved in this process. We examined the invasion of a renal carcinoma cell line (CCF-RC1) into the extracellular matrix compounds fibronectin, collagen IV and laminin and the effect of TGFbeta and IFNgamma on this process.
