Considerando che è sempre meglio prevenire che curare, l'autore evidenzia l'importanza dell'OCT e del GDx VCC rispetto alla perimetria computerizzata .Il danno del Campo Visivo, infatti, nella perimetria computerizzata non è mai precoce, pertanto, il difetto della funzione visiva si rileva quando è presente già un danno avanzato anatomico. l'OCT e il GDx VCC mediante il software permettono,invece, l'analisi dell'RNFL che precedono di almeno 5 anni le alterazioni perimetriche.

Objective :To assess the function of the optic pathway in type 2 diabetics without retinopathy (40 subjects) or with mild Non Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (40 subjects). Methods: VEPs , elicited by means of pattern-reversal stimulation, were studied in a group of 80 non-insulin-dependent diabetics . A comparatively rare case of familial nystagmus is reported in a girl whose family tree was studied and the interest of which, apart from the need for greater involvement of health personnel and of school staff in campaigns for prevention of sight disturbances in infancy, was mainly related to the particular recessive trasmission bound to chromosome X with incomplete penetrance. The multiplicity of hereditary trasmission, in fact, explains the relative capricious expressivity of this pathological condition which should be born in mild in the event of genetic consultancy.

PURPOSE: We report changes in the central corneal thickness during various phases of the menstrual cycle. METHODS: We recruited 16 healthy women of reproductive age and measured the central corneal thickness at 3 points in their menstrual cycle, beginning on days 1 to 3 and again at ovulation and at the end of the cycle (days 27-32). Ovulation was determined with a test that determines the peak of luteinizing hormone in the urine. Una malattia è considerata rara quando ha una prevalenza nella popolazione generale inferiore ad una data soglia (l’Unione Europea fissa tale soglia allo 0,05% della popolazione). L'autore evidenzia come l'interessamento di malattie rare, crocevia di problemi, per quanto riguarda l'apparato visivo sia molto elevato e notevolmente invalidante per chi ne è affetto.
