European expert opinion on the management of invasive candidiasis in adults
Item does not contain fulltext This report discusses the present status of antifungal therapy and treatment options for candidaemia, considered by experts in the field in Europe. A conference of 26 experts from 13 European countries was held to discuss strategies for the treatment and prevention of invasive candidiasis, with the aim of providing a review on optimal management strategies. Published and unpublished comparative trials on antifungal therapy were analysed and discussed. International audience; Converging sources of evidence point to a role for inflammation in the development of depression, fatigue and cognitive dysfunction. More precisely, the tryptophan (TRP) catabolism is thought to play a major role in inflammation-induced depression. Mastocytosis is a rare disease in which chronic symptoms, including depression, are related to mast cell accumulation and activation. Efficacy of Azacitidine (AZA) in Autoimmune and Inflammatory Disorders (AID) Associated with Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML)
Abstract Background: AID are seen in 10-30% of MDS and CMML. After initial response to steroids, AID are often poorly controlled and steroid-sparing drugs are difficult to use due to the underlying MDS/CMML. Some case reports suggest a beneficial role of AZA treatment in AID associated to MDS/CMML. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 22 MDS/CMML patients (pts) with AID who received AZA in French centers between January 2007 and May 2014. Results: Median age of the 22 pts was 70y (range 41-84), including 6F/16M. Micafungin versus liposomal amphotericin B for candidaemia and invasive candidosis: a phase III randomised double-blind trial
Summary Background Invasive candidosis is increasingly prevalent in seriously ill patients. Our aim was to compare micafungin with liposomal amphotericin B for the treatment of adult patients with candidaemia or invasive candidosis. Methods We did a double-blind, randomised, multinational non-inferiority study to compare micafungin (100 mg/day) with liposomal amphotericin B (3 mg/kg per day) as first-line treatment of candidaemia and invasive candidosis. The primary endpoint was treatment success, defined as both a clinical and a mycological response at the end of treatment. Primary analyses were done on a per-protocol basis. Leukocyte telomere length in mastocytosis: correlations with depression and perceived stress.
Abstract Background Mastocytosisis a rare disease associated with chronic symptoms related to mast cell mediator release. Patients with mastocytosis display high level of negative emotionality such as depression and stress sensibility. Brain mast cells are mainly localized in the diencephalon, which is linked to emotion regulatory systems. Negative emotionality has been shown to be associated with telomere shortening. Taken together these observations led us to hypothesize that mast cells activity could be involved in both negative emotionality and telomere shortening in mastocytosis.
